We were lucky to catch up with Danni White recently and have shared our conversation below.
Danni , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have worked in some form of marketing or advertising for the last ten years — B2B, B2C, B2B2C — and find that most business owners struggle with two primary things: funding and visibility. I didn’t know a ton about the first, but the visibility piece was an area I had grown some expertise as technology and social platforms have evolved. I decided to start my own agency for business owners to know what to do after they have built a good product or service. A lot of times, the product or service is great, but without an audience that knows about what you do and turns into customers, the business is bound to fail. I really hated to see business owners struggle every day to get clients and/or have people sell them on some thousands of dollars marketing service that didn’t get them the results they needed. I focus on a more holistic and organic approach to marketing where we look at the stage of your business and then decide on a best course of action to get you to your next goal and how we get there can be through a range of different ways.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Danni White and I am the owner of DW Creative Consulting Agency which is a digital marketing agency focused on using organic methods to bring visibility to our clients. We help professional service companies and nonprofits grow their organizations, gain visibility and increase revenue through branding, content marketing, web design, and social media. I started out writing for various online publications and essays for high school and college students and then eventually moved into digital marketing by way of content marketing about ten years ago. I always tell people that marketing is not easy but it is simple and that is why I aim to build clear and creative marketing strategies and execution techniques for my clients.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Initially, the funding for my business came from my own writing endeavors for other digital publications and magazines. I have created an extensive writing portfolio and I used the income from that to start my agency. Along the way, I have taken out business lines of credit, opened up business credit cards, and essentially used OPM to grow my business. Where you are at now whether it is a fulltime job, freelancing, trust fund or investment funds is where you want to look first to start your business. Sometimes it is easy to think that people have these large sums of money to get started — and sometimes they do — but you can literally start your business with what you have at this time.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built an audience of people offline before I ever built up an audience on social media. When I first started out and even several years into the business, all of my clients were based off of referrals and word of mouth so that was a huge plus. But then there came a time when I need to craft my own intentional outbound marketing strategy for pitching to potential customers and a huge part of that was building an audience on social media. My social media audience is about 14K on IG, 10K on Twitter 4K on LinkedIn and 3K on Facebook to date and a large part of that has come through being consistent on these platforms, showing up and really sharing information. Social is really a place to build consistent relationships, majorly through being consistent and executing on a simple strategy that works for your business. Without the consistency piece, there is a lot of visibility and eventually revenue that you could be leaving on the table.
