We recently connected with Danna Franklin and have shared our conversation below.
Danna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I explored and hone into my creative skills. I definitely think my eye for detail, natural understanding of colors, and intuition about space, harmony, and balance help tremendously.
I could’ve sped up the process if I wasn’t working a full time job at the time but I wouldn’t change the path I decided to go down. There were many late nights studying and getting more in depth with meanings and phrases.
The skills that are essential when becoming a designer is knowing the fundamentals of color, texture, forms and patterns. Knowing interpersonal skills is extremely important because you will need to interact with other designers, homeowners and builders.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Danna Franklin, soon to be Mrs. Danna Lee. I am an interior designer and wedding floral specialist located in Charlotte, NC. I am the owner of The Design Code, LLC.
The Design Code an organic experience that is adaptable and inspiring. We will always give 100% to bring an idea to life and welcome the challenges that come with transforming spaces and lives. I get great joy from fulfilling my passion and helping others realize their dreams.
I created The Design Code to provide an environment where people can revive and refresh. We make every effort to incorporate the client’s interests and personality in the final product. Just as life is a series of experiences, The Design Code tries to weave colors, shapes and textures into something that positively resonates with the client, whether it’s designing a home or an event..
How did you build your audience on social media?
I started building my audience on social media when I started posting my work; small or large I would post. I started posting weekly, creating reels and engaging with my followers. The more I engaged, the more I was booked for projects. I started with 100 followers to now being at almost 3,ooo.
One take away is to create reels! You will reach a larger audience when doing so. The more content you have, the larger the audience.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me is word of mouth and social media. Majority of my new clients have been referred from previous clients or saw my work at an event or on social media.
There have been several occasions that I have attended an event and someone approached me regarding The Design Code.
