Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Danna Casanova. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Danna, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
The kindest thing a person has done for me professionally speaking is “mentioned my name”. When I started I had goals and dreams that I wanted to accomplish and one of them was to design for a very important rodeo. I found out myself very frustrated because it didn’t matter how much effort I put through the years I was not getting where I wanted. Eventually I met a key person in the business. I remember I called her and asked her for a favor since I knew she was very well connected. I asked her to just “mentioned my name” to another person that was key for me to accomplish that dream. She kindly did and I got that opportunity that I’d been dreaming of since I started.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the western hat business because I have a passion for both fashion and rodeo. I saw there was a gap in the industry that was not filled and I decided I had to do something. I love jewelry and I loved riding horses but one day I tried riding wearing a big flashy necklace and earrings and it was torture. The faster the horse would go the hardest the necklace would bounce against my collar bone and I ended up loosing the earrings. Therefore I decided to solve the problem by replacing jewelry and adding crystals to my western hat, this way I wouldn’t be sacrificing the bling I loved. Nowadays I am very proud I have designed for cowgirls around the world and it makes me happy I’ve helped them look amazing and feel confident.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience via social media by being “present”. There’s a misconception that social media has no benefits and it is just a distraction. However I took it seriously and used as a tool to speak to the world. I knew there was going to be someone out there that was going to connect with me but I had to show them who I was. So I started to constantly posting and showing the world what I was about and who I was as a person. I learned that people like people and not only products. Therefore I made sure I was present every day for my followers and that’s how I started growing.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think society has to shift the idea that the arts are not a “safe” plan for young individuals to pursue as a career. We need to do a better job at supporting creative talent and encouraging new generations to create.
