We recently connected with Daniyah Mosley and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniyah, thanks for joining us today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
Asking friends/family to support your business
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hello everyone, my name is Daniyah Mosley. I am a 19-year-old lash technician. Also, as the owner of Amorrlashco, where I service all types of women for lash extensions and handmade lash strips from natural to dramatic, I’m very diverse.
To begin, my journey all started from the hunger of wanting a hustle and a key to independence, because all my life I was cradled under my mother and doing the norm of a teenage girl getting good grades and doing school activities. Until I was inspired to think outside of the box and strengthen my creativity. A very close friend who’s also a businesswoman inspired me, India Kior. Her grind and hustle at a young age gave me a push to strive for whatever I wanted to put my mind on.
So, back on April 2020 the 1st, to be exact, I decided to take a lash course to learn how to do lashes, having 0 experience, just interested and seeing If I was capable. To be honest, after the class I thought I couldn’t do it because of how challenging it was for me. But then I had to remember that things could be hard but you have to practice and stay motivated and progress will show. So I started practicing with family members and friends, who were very supportive. Then I realized I loved doing lashes and making other women feel beautiful. It didn’t take me long to make beautiful lash sets. I was a natural.
I’m most proud of always staying consistent and never giving up, even when I felt like I couldn’t do it because now it’s all worth it. With building clientele, I’ve made actual genuine connections with some of my clients that I’m truly grateful for and hope for many more!
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Yes absolutely! Before I had part-time jobs starting my junior year of high school just to make some money on the side. Until my freshman year of college during the beginning of the pandemic is when I got the idea of Amorrlashco. At first, I did it on the side to make more money and also practice before my actual goal of doing lashes as a full-time business.
When I got to campus at Howard University where I attend school as a Biology major., that’s where I begin lashes from side hustle to my actual full-time business. I was at first scared that It wasn’t going to succeed and that my plan wouldn’t come together but the support of my family and friends around me and on social media it got me where wanted. It’s been a year later since I started my business and now it’s under an LLC which I’m truly grateful for.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Consistency! In all forms by practicing and perfecting your craft and broadcasting your progress, people will see your grind and work ethic and will support you. Also being a college student greatly affected my business which where many young women entering college need to find a new lash tech, hairstylist, nail tech, etc. So that brought many opportunities for me to build my clientele and connections to show my craft as a lash artist.
Social Media was also very effective for me using hashtags and Instagram reels broaden. my audience to see my work and the area I was in. Being consistent on Instagram, Tik Tok or any social media platform you use is a great push for upcoming entrepreneurs.
