We were lucky to catch up with Daniya Shardae’ recently and have shared our conversation below.
Daniya, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My father always did charity work when I was growing up so it was just second nature to me honestly , but it really began my 10th grade year at Green StreetAcademy I had just started a new school I felt like there were so many new opportunities. I joined the “Pal Program” a program designed to pair a student with autism with a “Pal” we would be allowed to Start clubs and organizations with them and also provide them with job readiness skills. That had already motivated me to love community service just being able to make other feel good. Keeping busy I joined SGA as the Vice President allowing me to sit in on board meetings and witness strategic planning and realistic goal setting had mentally shaped a 16year old girl into a business woman. Every doubt I ever had disappeared the moment the Executive Director of my school presented me a letter of support to start a youth mentor program. Right there in that moment I knew that one day my voice would be heard and that someday I could change someone’s life.
I believe my approach is unique because it’s my method , that I created for my brand. That’s what makes it unique I created it .
What excites me the most is seeing results . Seeing people break habits , tackle goals and learning to love them selves.
With my makeup business I just had a aspiration to provide affordable services to girls who couldn’t afford it , I felt we all should be able to feel pretty. At the age when I started to believe in my skill it was a “mean girl era” girl bashed each other all day from what you wore , how you looked, the guy you dated, not being fortunate , or even how you style your hair so I felt that this was my way to make a change with women’s confidence in themselves. Provide them with an opportunity to feel good about themselves.
When I actually think about it making women feel good about themselves has always been my thing. So I guess you could call me a feminist.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I’ve been doing my own makeup since I was in the 8th grade. I went to Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women and we couldn’t wear it there so I would see the older girls in the bathroom sneaking lipstick or eyeliner on and watching them I eventually caught the hang of it. I transferred to Green Street Academy my Sophomore year of high school and that’s where I had my big break with makeup. I could wear it everyday , so I did! I woke up at 5:00am to do my makeup before school everyday , but that’s where my hustle began. It began with compliments them homecoming makeup appointments , graduation makeup appointments and charging $10 for eyebrows before first period . When I graduated things changed because my consistency changed. So I set up a at home suite in my apartment and began back promoting myself I went for maybe 2 clients a week to 15 clients a week within 2 months of consistency.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Character and Consistency! No matter how hard you think your working if you not consistent you won’t see the results. Most importantly where I’m from is my greatest strength Baltimore build you to stand out and beat the odds, but if you’re hearts pure that’s you bonus . Living in Baltimore is like “crabs in a bucket” everybody’s trying to make it to the top. So I believe my character built my reputation.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes ! Two books actually , my godmother brought for me ; The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho speaks volumes on journeys, believing in yourself. In the Alchemist The constant theme is to pursue your dreams by following what your heart desires and the importance on Gods timing. The second book is 100 Days of believing bigger by Marshawn Evans Daniels and I can say it has forced Prayer and Discipline into my life in more than one area. It’s very reflective. Everyday you’ll have a scripture , a breakdown of the meaning behind you scripture, a reflective prompt and end with a prayer for 100 days.
