We recently connected with Danitza Meliade and have shared our conversation below.
Danitza, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I remember myself as a child singing, dancing and making my own songs. I really believe that I born with this love for music, specially rock and metal (yes, since I was a child). I love art, and I love the fact that I’m creative, also extroverted, I can say that for me being on stage and share my art, my music, my lyrics, my performance is everything for me, and I had that feeling since I have memory. I was the kind of child that always was reading and hearing music, it was very clear that no matter what I was born to be an artist.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I had my first cover band when I was 15, then when I was 19 I had my first originals band, with whom I went on tour in Mexico for the first time. After that I went to college, I studied Hispanic and Mexican Literature and at the side I took bellydance lessons. Two years after this I started dancing at big venues and festivals around the USA and Mexico, I opened my dance academy and leave the music for some years. After this dance journey, I start again singing with cover band, at the same time writing my songs, but it was hard to me to find people who were interested on playing my music. After years I start getting noticed because my perfomance as a singer and I found people who like my music, my style, my lyrics, my ideas, and now I’m about to be on tour for the first time with my songs. I really believe that all that bellydance journey was my warm up and my ¨school¨ for what was going to happen on the future, because as a dancer, writter, singer, musician (I also play bass guitar) and also model (I took some lessons when I was teenager), I can be a complete artist.
Something that is very important for me is to empower women, to be someone to follow and an inspiration, I show myself free, with zero taboos, very erotic, because I want to show the world that women can be sensual and also intelligent, spiritual. Women are divine, every single one! I want to show myself like a modern nymph, a priestess, bassed on antique cultures, but on our new era.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
For me as a mexican woman my journey was kind of hard. There’s a lot of sexism in my culture. I met lots of people, male muscians most of them, who tried to make me less, looking for every small mistake that I made to exhibe myself, making jokes, memes, sometimes closing me doors at bars ant clubs. Some people can´t deal with my freedom, my way of living my spirituality, the way that I express myself. I had to improve as an artist, study, look for different opportunities, even show to my family that this is my path and this is what it makes me happy, my reason, my will, and that is not something bad. I had to do what i had to do, never quit, never give up, because this is my dream, and I´m pretty sure that this is who am I.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
First of all I want to make my dreams real, I really believe that we are here at planet Earth to find our will and our mission, and whenever you find it and start working on it, you become full an happy. When I was on my bellydance journey, I noticed that there´s lots of women that have tons of issues and insecurities, for me as an instructor I discover how dance can change lives, women feeling good with their skin, their bodies, getting more self esteem. I learn from sharing stage with my favorite bellydancers that every women is different, unique and beautiful. After this I keep in my mind this idea of inspire women to empower theirselves, to feel confortable with their sexuality, to love and embrace their bodies, to be grateful because we are women and we are divine! We can be sensual and intelligent at the same time. Also, I want to show to the world that dreams can come truth, it doesn´t matter your age, your genre, your nationality, or how many times people told you that you can´t make it, YOU CAN MAKE IT REAL IF YOU REALLY WORK AND IMPROVE YOURSELF!
