We caught up with the brilliant and insightful DANITZA LeVasseur a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
DANITZA, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I am so happy being a small business owner. I was just having this conversation with my son Gabe last night. He also works for himself at a salon in town. We were discussing how blessed we felt that we work our own schedules and that we appreciate what we do and the flexibility that provides in our lives. I’ve had a regular job before. While I gave it my all, I did not enjoy being on their schedule. Whether that meant working 9-5 or on the weekends. Now, it’s my choice, my business!

DANITZA, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been in the beauty industry since I was a teenager living in Hollywood, CA. I freelanced, worked for a Makeup Mogul in Los Angeles, worked for photographers and assisted in videos working for MTV back in the day. All of that creativity was wonderful and I gained so much knowledge working in the industry. However, as I got older, I wanted to get into Esthetics. Sometimes, it wasn’t just enough for me or satisfying to just cover up flaws with makeup. I wanted to get to the bottom of their skin issues. Getting into Esthetics was the best move for me! I get so much satisfaction out of it and I love seeing the results of my clients. There is also something very therapeutic when giving a facial. It is very relaxing for me as well.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Customer service is huge! I think, in many ways, we have lost that in many industries. You need to listen to your customers, greet them with a smile, listen to them and stay connected. More than anything, LOVE what you do. It will definitely show in your work and clients will love the results and the way you make them feel. With every facial that I give, I put all of my energy into it.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me is two things! The first is referrals. My clients send me new clients all the time which I am very grateful for. They purchase gift certificates for their friends and family to book a facial with me. Also, I took a chance and moved to a bigger location on Main Street. Having the exposure here on Main Street has proved to be a great move for my business.
