We recently connected with Danilo and have shared our conversation below.
Danilo, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The biggest risk I would say I’ve ever taken would probably be to just pursue an artistic career. Trying to make a living or even become successful creating art is one of the most difficult things to do. It is also super misunderstood by anyone who isn’t chasing that career. I’ve been interested in the music industry for as long as I cam remember. I don’t know many people who have been fortunate like me to be so sure about what they want to do with their life. Growing up while everyone was out playing in parks, hanging out with friends and just being regular kids I stayed indoors to learn and be able to excel in my craft. It was my choice, I wasn’t forced by my parents to pursue music it was all me. I preferred to stay home on weekends and practice my guitar for hours till my fingers literally bled. That should show my dedication and discipline to this from a very young age. I believe that mindset led me to where I am at today and why I am so hard working. Now a days everyone wants to be a music artist, everyone wants to rap or sing making it super difficult for those who are actually passionate about this to stand out. The industry is now super saturated. I find it funny that those who would make jokes about me always making music and being in the band now want to chase a music career. I believe majority of people are just trying to chase the lifestyle and not the actual passion of creating.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I believe some people are put on this planet for certain reasons and some people are blessed with certain talents to get to that position that’s meant for them. I’ve always wanted to be a rockstar as cliche as that sounds. Everyone would say that as a kid, but I went above and beyond to become this person. My first love was the guitar, and unfortunately growing up there weren’t affordable music classes that provided me with that. But what did I do as an 8 year old. I started learning visually through the internet. As time went on I still never got the opportunity to even hold an actual guitar, but I was so dedicated that I genuinely learned how to play the basics without even having a physical instrument. I drew the instruments and would play them by tapping the paper. When I got my first guitar…. IT WAS OVER. I knew the basics that a lot of people struggled with and at that point I was just 9 turning 10. That could show you where my discipline developed from. I’ve been the same and I am now 23 years of age.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I truest believe that non-creatives will never understand how difficult it actually is to become successful in this business. This is because once they see an artist blow up to outside public it looks overnight and easy. But this is because they don’t see the behind the scenes that contain years of work and rejection. I think artists need to do a better job at showing this side to the industry and show that it is not always sunflowers and rainbows, but it can get extremely dark when you feel like the one thing you are passionate about seems to be going anywhere. Take it from me I’ve been making music and learning since the age of 9-10 and I’m still trying to make it, so if you think it’s easy, think again. We work hard to make it look like an overnight success. I believe this why artists become bitter when they make it and just keep to themselves. It’s years of failure, judgement and rejection before getting where you want to get.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I would say my whole life is a great way to showcase my resilience. From being bullied because I wanted to be a musician most of my life to now being an adult and receiving majority negative energy from my community. All that and I still keep my head up and I’m still chasing what I’ve been chasing as a kid. Never quit or took a break. I literally went to college to study music so there were no breaks in my musical journey. I take a lot of pride in that and I feel like I can compete with anybody due to this resilience.
