Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Danika Frandsen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Danika thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I was a nurse in the Postpartum unit of a hospital, giving discharge instructions to some new parents. After finishing the instructions, they asked if I could come home with them, because they still didn’t feel ready to take care of the newborn on their own. I told them that I wish I could, but it wasn’t possible. That same week, two MORE couples asked the same thing – if I could come home with them. By the third time, it seemed like there really was a need for help transitioning home with a newborn, and the idea for Baby Steps Concierge Nursing was born!

Danika, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Baby Steps Nursing is comprised of registered nurses who specialize in the fields of neonatal and newborn care. We will meet with you before the baby arrives to start preparing you and answering questions you may have, and then after you leave the hospital we will send a nurse to your home to help and support you as you learn about caring for your new baby.
We address the mental, physical, and emotional aspects of new parenthood, and help to reduce the overwhelm and fear so that you can develop into the confident parent that your newborn needs. Strong parents lead to strong families, which lead to strong communities. Baby Steps is honored to be a part of that process.
Baby Steps is proud to help families who have used surrogacy to build their families. The surrogacy process is long and emotional, and oftentimes so much effort is put into the pregnancy process that not much thought is given to the parenting journey after the baby is born. We pride ourselves on helping you become the best parent you can be.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Having referral partners has been the most effective strategy for us. We have relationships with surrogacy agencies, fertility clinics, and family-formation law attorneys. We have also talked to pediatricians who are looking for another resource parents can use for every day questions regarding the care of their newborn.
We also offer newborn education classes. This allows us to share our knowledge and experience with soon-to-be parents in a setting that is fun and safe.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Learning to trust myself has been vital in the building of Baby Steps Concierge Nursing. I have had a lack of self-confidence for a lot of my life, and so it’s second nature to question my thoughts and decisions. What I have learned over the last few years is that I know myself and what’s important to me, and I trust that the knowledge of those will guide me in making good decisions for my business. As long as I stay true to my values, I believe that success will come.
