Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daniil Romanov. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Daniil, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
This is probably the biggest dream that I have to work through with my therapist. To go back a few years, and preferably with the same knowledge, which I have now. I’ve been told many times I should start making funny videos for my social networks, but I refused, saying it doesn’t correspond to my status or expertise. This was probably due to the framework of society in my home country. And now, having moved to the United States, I’m faced with the problems of creating a new personal brand and even more so promotion. However, if I could turn back time, I would have started releasing such content back in 2019.
Having abandoned my prejudices, I started releasing this content on my Instagram, testing it on YouTube and TikTok. The results are not the best yet, but I’m not stopping. Sometimes I take a ‘digital-detox’, during which I analyze what I should focus on.
At the same time, I do not give up on the global dream that should lead me to my own media business in Los Angeles.
Daniil, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was lucky because I realized who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do quite early. At the age of 19, I firmly decided that radio and TV were my future. I went through several castings, after which I got on the air of a local radio station in my small town, then moved to the capital, where I began working for the biggest radio in the country and fulfilled my childhood dream – I became an employee of MTV Russia. Later, I worked for an English-language radio station in Dubai. Now this is my past, rich and eventful, which doesn’t let me go. As a media consultant, I helped organize the first Russian-language radio station in Los Angeles, and now I’m studying the media market, new technologies for myself and developing a business plan for launching Russian-speaking radio.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Moving to the United States. This is the biggest and last change in my life. In 2022, due to the current military situation, I had to make an urgent decision to end my past life and start a completely new path. This moment completely turned my routine upside down. I had to give up my usual life and successful career in my country and take a giant step into the unknown. I have not yet gotten stronger and have not set out on my true path, but I’m sure that an incredible future awaits me. The main thing is not to give up and move towards your goal, at least in small steps.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Feedback, reaction, result! I get pleasure when I see it from the audience. I think this applies to any person and any sphere of activity. If you see a positive result of your work, bright emotions of the people around you and an independent response, it’s worth a lot. This is one of the components of my personal happiness.
