We recently connected with Danielle Tucker and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
2020 was projected to be a record-breaking year for the Mighty Untouchables band. As of March 9, 2020, our business completely shut down. We lost nearly a half-million dollars in business due to Covid shutdowns. All of our band members’ primary income was dependent upon the band’s business. It was a huge disappointment and hit us brutally hard financially. However, we knew collectively that this was not the end for us. We hunkered down and stuck together throughout the whole ordeal. We held band meetings via Zoom as often as possible to catch up and find ways to support one another. We all played a role in researching relief loans and grants to sustain ourselves. As each one of us picked up side projects and new ventures we rallied around and supported everyone’s efforts. Most importantly, we stayed true to our core values and standards for our clients. Despite what our contracts stated in regards to cancellations and refunds, we opted to refund all deposits to our clients who had to cancel. We believed this was the right thing to do and that in the end, it would pay off when our clients could get back to business and planning. This proved to be true in spades.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
The Mighty Untouchables is an award-winning corporate show band guaranteed to please audiences of all tastes with our extensive and diverse collection of material. After 10 years together, we’ve crafted a show that is like no other – one-part feverish dance party and one-part stunning concert experience in one. You’ll see they are a band that does it all and does it well! Offering everything from Top 40 Dance, Motown, Disco, Yacht Rock, Classic Rock, Jazz, Country, Current Pop Hits, and much more. With 1,000+ shows performed, our guests are guaranteed to experience an unforgettable night of fun, excitement, and dancing that they’ll talk about it for years to come.
We’re based out of San Diego, California, and perform worldwide. We perform on average 125 shows per year including corporate events, weddings, and public concerts.
The band consists of 7 core members – Mark Fulton (guitarist and bandleader), Mike Holguin (drummer and musical director), Greg Merrill (bass), Bobby Cressey (keys), Danielle Tucker (vocals), Durell Anthony (vocals), and Donovan Hurst (vocals). We often add a 3-6 piece horn section to our lineup. We’re very different from most bands because this is our permanent lineup up of performers. These are the exact all-star players you can expect to show up when the band is hired.
The core values of our business are family, integrity, honesty, trust, accountability, commitment to clients, fun, quality, musical excellence, and teamwork. We give 100% to every performance and take immense pride and ownership of what we do. After 13 years together in business, we know exactly what we do best and aim to overdeliver on it every time.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
For many years we maintained a presence on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. We would post demo videos, pictures from performances, and upcoming show dates. Then in 2016 while filming and recording a new promotional video, we decided to jump into the studio and take on a more creative project.
From our live shows, we’d fallen in love with a live version of Chaka Khan’s song, “I Feel For You”, written by Prince. Inspired by her recording at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2011, our very own MD, Mike Holguin, directed a killer arrangement of the song for us featuring a blazing horn section. We’ve been playing it at our shows live now for several years so it was a complete joy to get into the studio and record it. Everything was recorded and filmed simultaneously at Pacific Beat Recordings in San Diego, with Grammy award winning engineer, Alan Sanderson.
The video views shot to over 1.2 million on YouTube alone. The band has since released 3 other cover arrangements with notable success including “Canned Heat” by Jamiroquai, “Love’s In Need of Love Today” by Stevie Wonder, and “What A Fool Believes” by the Doobie Bros. Our YouTube channel has nearly 9,000 subscribers and collectively nearly 2 million views.
We learned a very important lesson about showing up as ourselves and doing what we naturally do best on social media.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Throughout our 13-year journey together we’ve experienced some of the toughest cards life can deal with. We’ve stuck together as a family unit through it all. We’ve taken every up and every down as a lesson and opportunity to grow. Being a tight group of creatives can be challenging balancing everyone’s big personalities and creative differences and standards. We’ve become stronger and better at embracing the unique qualities that each one of us brings to the table. Resilience and consistency have made a well-oiled machine.
