We were lucky to catch up with Danielle Murray recently and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle, appreciate you joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
Looking back, I believe I started my business at just the right moment. Alignment has been a recurring theme in my journey, and it all began with an unexpected layoff. In early 2020, at the height of the pandemic, I was working in sales support at a startup, handling lead generation. After eight months, my entire department was let go.
Business has always fascinated me. I took business classes in high school and, after a few detours in college (shoutout to UNC Charlotte!), I majored in Communications Studies with a PR concentration. Though my major wasn’t strictly business, my extracurriculars, clubs, and electives gave me the foundation I needed to pivot into social media marketing.
While sitting at home during those uncertain months, collecting unemployment and reevaluating my career, I made a decision to start freelancing. That eventually grew into my business, Humble Nature Consulting, a name inspired by my late father’s character. It was my way of honoring him while building something I truly loved.
If I’d started sooner, I’m not sure I would’ve had the grit or resilience to handle entrepreneurship. Funny enough, I never set out to be an entrepreneur. It found me at a time when I had just enough space, and just enough naivety, to take the leap.
Now, nearly five years in, I’m still learning every day. Had I waited, maybe I’d have more corporate experience to lean on or better financial groundwork. But I also might’ve missed the opportunity altogether. Instead, I dove in headfirst, armed with textbook knowledge and a willingness to figure out the rest as I went. As a lifelong learner, I’ve come to see every challenge as another lesson in disguise.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a social media strategist with music in my soul. My roots in music are deeply tied to the community I grew up in, Greenburgh, New York, where I spent my summers at camp exploring self-expression through writing, music, and dance. That early exposure to creativity has always stayed with me. Eventually, it led me to make a purposeful pivot into supporting independent artists. Through my undergraduate studies, I developed a strategic mindset—learning how to break down complex ideas, analyze them, and rebuild them with clarity and intention. When I realized I could apply that same approach to help creatives and entrepreneurs grow their presence on social media—infusing strategy with creativity—I knew I had found a space where passion and purpose aligned.
My entrepreneurial journey began in 2020 when I originally launched my business to help small businesses elevate their presence across social platforms. While I found success in that space, my true passion had always been quietly guiding me—curating playlists and supporting a friend through their independent music releases made it clear where my heart belonged. After years of reflection and completing a Music Business Certification in late 2024, I made the intentional pivot to focus exclusively on music marketing.
Today, through Humble Nature Consulting, we’re dedicated to empowering independent artists with the tools and strategies they need to amplify their voices and build sustainable careers. We bridge the gap between raw talent and strategic execution, helping artists connect authentically with fans while maximizing their return on investment.
Our mission is rooted in a simple belief: great artists deserve great marketing. Through a mix of education, inspiration, and community, we’re creating a resource hub for indie artists who are ready to turn passion into profit—without compromising their artistry. This work goes far beyond followers and streams; it’s about building meaningful, lasting careers where creativity and strategy coexist in harmony.
Each day, I have the privilege of combining my marketing expertise with my love for music—guiding artists through the complexities of the industry. It’s challenging, fulfilling, and undeniably aligned with my purpose. When your work aligns with your passion, it doesn’t feel like work at all.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Authenticity is everything. I’ve been creating graphics, videos, and strategies for over five years. Working in marketing means constantly keeping pace with the evolution of social media platforms, and like many other creators, I’m always adjusting and pivoting. That hands-on experience allows me to truly meet my clients where they are. I’m navigating the same landscape right alongside them.
For anyone just starting to build their social media presence, consistency is key. Consistency doesn’t necessarily mean posting every single day. It looks different for everyone. For beginners, that might mean committing to three posts a week for a month. Just as important is understanding your analytics. Your professional dashboard, regardless of the platform, should be your best friend. Let that data guide your content decisions and help you fine-tune both what you create and how you create it.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I rely heavily on my email list and make it a point to follow both current and past clients on social media. I believe in showing up authentically and letting my work speak for itself. Kindness, clear communication, and empathy go a long way in building lasting relationships. More often than not, the referrals I receive come from people who appreciate how I choose to show up and engage.
