We recently connected with Danielle Munday and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe that passion and ambition have a huge impact on success. I maintain a positive attitude by telling myself, ‘there is no limit.’ Rather than asking ourselves, “can we do this?” We need to ask ourselves, “how can we do this?”
I’ve experienced that mental block many times and I know that I could be further along in my career, had I not doubted myself.
We all feel insecure at times, but it’s how we persevere during these times, that build character.
Feeling scared? Do it anyway. What’s going to happen? You could trip. You could stutter. You could forget your own name. So what!!

Danielle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I always enjoyed being on my feet and creating material. I spent most of my childhood and teenage years, dancing and performing in theater.
This continued throughout college; where I studied Drama, Theater and Performance Studies. As well as working on student films.
After moving from Oxford to Louisville, I followed another dream, of working on film & tv projects. There have definitely been days I’ve felt sick to my stomach when arriving to set, BUT I do it anyway and nothing bad has happened (touch wood).
I’ve also been dabbling in producing and directing. This brings me a lot of joy.
Especially the mental health awareness projects I’ve been working on this year.
Another dream was to be my own boss, so I started a residential and commercial cleaning business – London Maid. I started off working alone and then began hiring staff and building my accounts. It’s a lot of hard work, but definitely worth it. Now I have over 50 accounts and am expanding each year.
I think mistakes some people make in this industry is to not be ‘on the floor.’ You have to do the cleaning yourself and teach staff the techniques that work for your business. You have to check your work and be extremely thorough. Detailed work will lead to referrals and reviews. You have to show your clients that you care about their home or their business. That’s more important than anything.
I have two more small businesses in the works as well as an animal welfare organization. I’ll be sharing more details to my social media this coming January.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Since I’m a remote business, I didn’t need a huge amount of capital. I saved enough money from my previous job in hotel sales & management. This funded my start up costs.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Transitioning from the UK to the US was tough, especially in terms of starting new careers, networking and building a new life. It took time and a lot of energy, but almost 8 years later I’m very happy and grateful to be where I am.
There’s not too much that I’d change. I like to face new challenges. Obstacles make life interesting, and they definitely influence my feelings of thankfulness and appreciation for what I have.
