We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Danielle Matthews a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
Prior to going through my program Dolly was grieving the loss of her husband. In fact the one year anniversary was during my 6 week course. She had lost her confidence, was doubtful, got overwhelmed by the simplest things and felt constant stress. I shared with her deep spiritual truths in combination with direct experience of the teachings. I showed her how to find inner calm. How to navigate all experiences with ease. We discussed a different perspective on life and how challenge birth growth. Through the unique guided meditation I created for her that she did daily, we reset her nervous system. At the end of the program Dolly felt marvelous. She had the confidence to go out and start dating again. She’s been more social and is keeping calm under stressful circumstances.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was hit by a drunk driver in my 20’s and my world turned upside down. I could no longer work and found myself on a journey of healing. A year in I was told my body had done the healing it would do and this was my “new normal” that I should adjust to the fact that I couldn’t concentrate for extended periods, that I couldn’t handle light or noise, that I was in severe pain daily with migraines and would get dizzy easily. I refused.
I knew something had to change but the external world didn’t seem to have the answers. That is when I went inward. I realized the inner choice. My inner karma, the choice I had about how to handle what the external world had presented to me – a physical injury and lose of health that appeared to have no solution.
I realized I could decide to be angry or to be patient. To be anxious about the future or stay in the present. To be depressed about the past or be grateful for what I did have.
This inner choice opened me up to a dimension within myself I had never experienced. When everything I had identified with was taken away – my work, my ability to participate in sports, my friends, my relationship – I realized I am not any of those things.
One could say I had a spiritual awakening and upon this discovery things shifted in the external world. I became calm and the answer to my physical challenges appeared in my life through a biotech breakthrough called redox signaling.
Once I regained my health I realized I was in a position now to make a choice about how I wanted to spend my time and how I could give to others the insight I had received both about helping the physical body repair but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
I began sharing the redox signaling technology through a partnership with that company and now ten years later have helped thousands regain their health and support their foundation, their cellular health. I also dove into yogic philosophy as their work most aligned with the revelations I myself had. As a certified yoga nidra and yoga therapy facilitator I help people go beyond the mind to connect with their true self and release blockages where they actually exist.
I now coach and train others to do the same and have a team stretching around the world. The network of people and who we all become through growing and learning together is the best part. I am always looking for good people to join this mission.
Outside of supporting with the physical body I also offer private sessions, workshops and 6 week programs to address the biggest challenge facing people mentally, emotionally or spiritually. This may be a health issue or it could be being a new mom, losing a loved one, retiring and not having purpose any longer or simply daily constant chatter in the mind that is leading to stress.
I’m grateful that I’ve been able to transmute the worst thing in my life, being hit by a drunk driver and sustaining a brain injury, into the best thing I’ve ever experienced, being able to help others realize their full potential.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The pandemic was a global challenge we all faced and in 2020 it meant a massive pivot for how I grew my business. Up to that point I networked in my local community. I was a Director Consultant for Business Networking International (BNI) in my region and an Ambassador for my local Chamber of Commerce. I spent my time out in the community meeting with referral partners and local business owners. I also hosted events and workshops to build my business. In 2020 that was shut down overnight. I found myself asking, “what is this challenge making possible?”
This is a question I ask myself anytime an obstacle comes in my path. I find that our minds want things to go a certain way and we have expectations that they will, but often the universe has other plans. When you stay open, and don’t resist, the obstacles in your path often they open you to greater opportunities. Events, connections, situations you couldn’t have dreamed.
For myself being forced to stay indoors meant, social media. I had to pivot and move my business 100% online.
As someone who does not like to consume social media, or post, it was a big stretch for me. I invested in one of the top coaches and began implementing everything I learned. Learn. Do. Learn. Do. Learn. Do.
After a few months I got my first sale and I remember jumping up and down in my house thinking if I can do it once I can do it 100 times.
That trend continued and my business ended up going international and expanding beyond anything I could have dreamed as partnerships with YouTube content creators, podcasters and other influencers started to open up.
Had I not been forced to pivot, my business would have remained local and my impact much smaller.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I’ve been an athlete my whole life, which meant I always had a coach guiding me. I also started working as soon as I was able—babysitting, working at a dog kennel, and lifeguarding. I bought my first car on my own and worked my way through college at the University of Virginia, a top-tier school that essentially prepared me to land a great job and build a successful career within the traditional workforce.
But everything changed after my car accident. I was forced out of the traditional job market, and once I had healed, I realized I had no desire to return to the 9-to-5 rat race. Instead, I needed to build something of my own.
That shift required me to unlearn the mindset of an employee and adopt the mindset of an entrepreneur—something I had never been taught. Working for yourself is completely different from working for someone else. I had to learn how to discipline myself, set my own goals, and seek out accountability partners. I had to surround myself with others on a similar journey to stay motivated and continue growing.
One of the biggest challenges was adjusting to the fact that effort didn’t always lead to immediate rewards. I had spent my whole life in structured environments where you put in X amount of time and got paid X amount in return. In business, you can work incredibly hard for months without seeing any tangible results. That was tough to wrap my head around.
A mentor once told me that in this kind of work, you’ll do a lot for nothing in the beginning. Then, you’ll start earning based on your efforts, and eventually, you’ll reach a point where you’re paid far beyond the work you’re doing. Most people quit before they ever reach that third phase.
I’m glad I didn’t quit. That lesson changed my life, and now, I want to help others break free from the employee mindset and step into the freedom that comes with an entrepreneurial way of thinking.
