We were lucky to catch up with Danielle LoDuca recently and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I’ve been an adventurous rebel my whole life, and I also struggled with confidence. When I became a wife and mother, a new pattern of serving everyone except myself led me to the point of burnout. Even though I had once been a vibrant, intelligent person hungry for growth and learning, I found myself numb, weak, empty and resentful.
I embarked on a journey to recreate myself and my life, which started with a dream to become a horseback archer. I built my identity, strengthened my soul, developed my body and emotional resilience and I continue to grow this empowered version of myself every day.
I am now not only a better wife and mother, but I feel fulfilled. I’m running my own business while supporting several non-profits. I’m excited for even more possibility in my future.
I know what it’s like to feel powerless, to overdo it, to ask, “who am I to do that or ask for that?” I know what it’s like to try and fit into other people’s boxes and to feel totally infulfilled and lifeless.
Women tend to think it’s selfish to care for ourselves. The truth is, it’s selfish not to. The world needs us. Our families need us and our success depends on our willingness to honor our minds, bodies, hearts and souls.
My mission is to empower women to lead more effectively and make an even bigger impact while taking better care of themselves than ever before. This world needs women to be powerful. I believe that women can be the most powerful force for good in the world and that when women are strong, everyone wins.
Danielle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a wife and mother of five kids, I’ve been a bit of a rebel my whole life. If you asked people about me in high school or college, they might tell you I was a rockstar, but no one knew how I struggled with wanting to fit in. As a wife and mother, I tried to do everything ‘right’ and be everything for everyone, until I found myself burnt out and deeply unfulfilled.
I knew something needed to change when I realized I had become numb and empty. I could no longer feel things that had once inspired me, like and incredible sunset or the night sky. So I made a seemingly random choice to become a horseback archer, which actually represented the opposite of the woman I had become. The thought of being a strong, courageous, noble warrior who could hit her targets (get what she wants) motivated me. I committed to, what at the time was this impossible goal, and as a result transformed myself and my life.
As I transformed my body and mind I wanted to help others too. I saw so many women who thought that as they aged, their quality of life had to diminish, or that life had to be hectic and they had to be martyrs sacrificing almost everything to be worthy.
Initially, I began teaching group fitness classes in a gym. When the gym shut down due to the impacts of Covid, I decided to start my own classes. They’ve now been running for a few years and I have members that have been with me since the beginning.
I was a certified nutrition coach as well, and began helping women around their bodies, self image, nutrition and overall health. I was inspired to help people more deeply and so began shifting away from health coaching to an even more comprehensive approach.
I realized that women are potentially the most powerful force in the world. We have so much capability for influence in our lives – we can influence our spouses so much more than we realize, our children, our friends and coworkers, even random people we encounter in the grocery store. I knew that empowering women, especially those who are already making a difference in the world, would be a powerful way to contribute.
I work side by side with women to bring their dreams into reality. Women with big dreams, goals and who want to live a full, satisfying life where they are not bogged down by the other people in their lives, or overwhelmed by the number of responsibilities and tasks on their lists. I want women to feel whole, and to begin to understand just how powerful they really are, because even very powerful women who are achieving a lot, don’t realize the extent to which they have influence and how to maximize it without burning out or neglecting themselves.
I offer 1:1 Coaching and Advising to a handful of powerful women each year. I love working long term with women, we often spend the beginning gaining momentum and in several months their worlds begin to shift as they refine their sense of identity and believe in their capacity to be exactly who they want to be and more.
One of my favorite programs that I offer includes horses and archery. Women spend an entire day with me experiencing deep coaching, learning about power dynamics and themselves, with the aid of magnificent horses. Horses act like mirrors and respond to your energy and attitude. They encourage you to be congruent and help you see your own weaknesses. They also teach about dominance and submission in a beautiful way that lends itself well to leadership. Wielding a bow is used as a beautiful metaphor for personal growth, power and focus, as well as flexibility.
I also offer group programs from time to time and work in my local community empowering girls.
Because women are so strong and powerful, many of us end up doing everything, and being everything for everyone. We are often very giving and want to do right by others and keep our word. We also tend to second guess ourselves, try really hard to fit into other people’s boxes or opinions of what a great woman, mother, wife, and daughter must be like.
In trying to be what others have conceived for us, we can lose ourselves, which diminishes our light, our power and sucks the passion and life out of us.
I help women reclaim their power through discovering who they really are and who they want to be in the world. I help them see their power, their strengths and where there’s room for growth.
So much of the work I do centers around mindset, and around identity. When you know WHO you want to be and start to show up as her, the whole world seems to change around you. I support women to dream bigger, and make an even more powerful impact while taking better care of themselves than ever. Sometimes we think caring for ourselves is selfish, but actually it’s necessary.
I’ve been a talented, powerful person since I was a girl, but I always felt I was different, and I didn’t always know it was okay to be different. I felt powerless. I muted my strengths so as not to shine too bright. I struggled with trying to fit into boxes others created. I tried to be perfect. I gave too much. I got burnt out and struggled in my motherhood, in my marriage. And I am a testament to the fact that transformation is possible. Now, I run my own business supporting incredible women as they become even more powerful leaders, making a positive impact while taking better care of themselves than ever. My clients are entrepreneurs, creatives, non-profit leaders, mothers and executives. I’ve helped found and am president of a non-profit serving my local community. I sit as a board member for two other non-profits. I’ve worked with kids, empowering them and teaching them leadership and the power of being female.
My marriage has transformed and I believe this last year has been our best of 18. Family life is healthy and fulfilling, we are growing and changing for the better, together.
I want to say that I’m in the best shape of my life, because that’s how I feel, but a few days ago I barely beat my 16 y/o daughter in an arm wrestle, and she doesn’t even work out. So, let me say this: I may have been faster, stronger and more agile when I was young, but I am excited that in my 40’s I feel stronger and healthier than ever. I have to work for my results at this age, and I can appreciate them with wisdom of gratitude that I didn’t have in my teens and 20’s.
I’m on a mission, because I believe that women can be the most powerful force in the world, and I believe that if we want to create a better future, we have to step up. Leave our old baggage and limiting beliefs in the dust. We haven’t o step into our power, own it and use it for good. I’m proud of what I do because it is in service of women, and I know that when women are strong, everyone benefits. So I believe I am helping to change the world, one conversation, and one strong woman at a time.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn the lesson that selling is sleazy. I had this idea that selling meant I wanted something from someone and that I was asking something from the person I was selling to, which kept me away from trying to sell anything.
I had to learn that selling is service. With the help of my mentor and several coaches, plus my own experience working with women and seeing how powerful their transformations have been. There are women who want what I have to offer. They are striving to get to their next level, and with me by their side, they get there faster and with more awareness and less struggle. The way I support women, they are often able to share things with me they have never shared with another living soul, and I realize how valuable having that space of no judgement and unconditional support in service of them is. I personally have invested in over $30k worth of coaching for myself just last year, so I walk the walk as well, I know this work is priceless. Not selling what I have to offer would be selfish of me.
Also I see that when people invest in themselves financially, they show up more powerfully for themselves. Think about a cheap course you purchased and treated as cheap. When you invest in something significantly, you are more likely to cherish it and care for it. So although some think my fees are high, I know they are very low for the value people get, and I am happy to say my prices out loud because I know they will encourage my clients to show up for themselves.
Selling is giving and serving and I love it.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’m an introvert. I don’t like seeing myself in pictures, or hearing my own voice in videos! I resisted going on social media for a long time.
Similar to my shift in mindset around selling, I know that my social media is also in service of women and my potential clients. If I don’t show up, I can’t help women who are out there waiting for a service like mine so they can flourish.
So I just started to show up. No script, no makeup, just me in that moment. I didn’t do a million retakes, (well maybe a few times) but basically I was vulnerable and genuine. I’m there to help, not to be a Instagram star, and clients have found me and created beautiful transformations in their lives and businesses as a result. My advice is to not overthink it, just get out there and start. All of us will refine and get better as we go, but it’s ok to be messy and in fact I think it’s often necessary at first.
