We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Danielle Larracuente a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Any advice for creating a more inclusive workplace?
Yes! I believe being more inclusive in my industry, the entertainment industry has been a slow moving progression. It is important that our television screens reflect our world. Which signifies growth, evolution, and love. Coming from a latin background seeing myself on the screen helped me to overcome many things in my life, and I know many others feel that way too. I wish that I am able to do that for others, and be able to see they can reach their dreams and aspirations.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Yes! So my name is Danielle Larracuente. I am an actress. I started as a child actor at the age of four. I got into the industry because of being bitten by the acting bug. I have been lucky to always know I wanted to act and be on stage. I believe what granted me the privilege to have this longevity I have had in this industry is my discipline. The discipline to be active and do my part in my career. Whether that is working on my craft or marketing myself. Or the discipline to not give up and keep trying. I am most proud of my courage to follow my dreams scared. I feel like many get held back by fear, but I have learned to take it with me. It never goes away, every stage of my career I find a new moment where it comes up. I just don’t let it win.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Yes. From being a child actor, there was a time I needed to make sure this is really what I wanted to do. I ended up quitting for about 5 years. I went to college, I went to cosmetology school, worked in many fields, and became a mom. After having my son, I realized how can I tell him to go for his dreams and I am not. So because of the gap I had to start from scratch. I had to learn a new way of auditioning (selftaping), get reps, and reestablish myself in the industry. I pushed forward, and can say I am now a consistent working actor.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Not to take others opinion’s as a fact. Especially when the person who has the opinion is not someone you admire. In my career I had many people not accept me for who I am. Which is a curvy 5’1” latin woman. They tried to put me in a box. I had to rise above that and make my own lane.
