We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Danielle Holloway a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I founded Designing Her with a simple yet powerful mission: to help women feel more confident through a product that is universal part of our lives-makeup. I saw the transformative power makeups can have, not just on the outside but within, and I wanted to create something that would be more than just a product line. I wanted Designing Her to be a tool for empowerment. By encouraging women to embrace their unique beauty daily, I believe they can step into the world with fearlessness and a stronger sense of self. My goal is to remind every woman that confidence is within her reach, and touch of makeup can be a reminder of her strength and beauty.

Danielle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the beauty industry driven by a passion for helping women feel empowered and beautiful. Growing up, I was always fascinated by the confidence a bit of makeup could bring, and I wanted to share that transformative feeling with others. That’s how Designing Her was born. I focus on creating products that enhance natural beauty and build confidence for women who want to feel their best at any stage in life. I currently offer a curated range of products designed to address everyday beauty needs from skin care , vibrant lip colors that make a statement and more. Each product in the line was created with quality and ease of use in mind, making beauty accessible for women with busy lives who still want to feel radiant and put together.
One of the core issues Designing Her addresses is the lack of products geared toward women looking to simplify their beauty routine without sacrificing quality. Many women especially those balancing careers and family, don’t always have time for extensive beauty routines. My products aim to make it easy to look polished and feel confident in minutes, giving women a boost in their day to day lives.
What I’m most proud of is a positive impact Designing Her has had on my client’s self-confidence. Hearing stories of women who feel empowered and fearless when they use my products if the moist fulfilling part of the journey. It reminds me every day that beauty isn’t just skin deep; it’s about creating confidence and helping women feel ready to take on the world.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Starting Designing Her was as much a journey of resilience as it was a leap into the beauty industry. I didn’t have everything perfectly lined up or a roadmap to guarantee success. In fact, there were times I doubted if I could truly bring this vision to life. I had a passion for beauty and deep desire to empower women, but the fear of missing critical pieces – whether it was funding, experience, or the perfect business plan was daunting.
However, I knew that if I waited for the stars to align perfectly, I might never start. So, I focused on the reasons why I wanted to do this: to build confidence in women and create something meaningful. Every time fear crept in, I reminded myself of the impact I wanted to make. I took it one step at a time, learning adjusting and building as I went along. It wasn’t always easy, but determination to start something that I believed in fueled me to keep going, even on the toughness days.
Today, I look back with pride and how far Designing Her has come. Those early fears have transformed into stronger belief in myself and my vision. I’ve learned that resilience is not about having everything figured out but having the courage to start, even if you don’t have all the answers. This journey has shown me that with passion, purpose, and a willingness to step into the unknown, you can create something extraordinary .

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was belief that everything had to be perfect before I could start. I used to think I needed every detail planned out, every potential challenge anticipated, and every resource lined up to be ready. But as I begin building Designing Her, I realized that waiting for perfection was holding me back.
In reality, business is about growth, flexibility, and learning as you go. I had to let go of the need for complete certainty and instead embrace the process, knowing there would be mistakes and lessons along the way. By unlearning this idea of perfection, I found freedom in moving forward, taking calculated risks, and learning from each experience.
This shift allowed me to grown Designing Her more authentically and connect with my audience on deeper level. It taught me that progress, not perfection, is the real foundation of success.
