We recently connected with Danielle Fischer and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
Client service and experience I believe is at the forefront of what I do. Each bride, every event is an opportunity create friendships as well as grow your business. When working with brides, it truly is such a special day and event to be a part of. It can also be a day of nerves and big feelings from the guests I get to work with. Creating an environment and space in my chair where they feel confident is what it is all about. I have had brides cool as cucumbers and others that needed a breath of fresh air before beginning. I love them both! A huge goal of mine (nerves and all) is to make a connection starting at the consultation. This is our first official meeting where they can get to know me and vice versa. Once that connection is created, I fully believe everything else falls in line after.
Danielle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Of course! My name is Danielle and I have had a heart for doing hair since I botched my best friends haircut at the age of 4. Haha, but seriously, I have loved doing hair since I was a little girl. It has been a dream I have chased ever since then. I am grateful to have parents who have encouraged me every step of the way, set backs and all! I am an on-location bridal and event stylist, traveling to my couples for one of the best days ever. At the core of what I do, it is about building relationships. I fully believe this is what not only sets me apart, but helps to grow my business as well. I love to create a space where not only do you love your hair, but have truly enjoyed your time while getting it done. I am most proud of how my guests have put their trust in me. Apart from loving your hair, the experience is equal in value to me as well. I will be business of course when we need to be, but aside from that, girl let’s have a great time! You can typically find me in my ball cap, ready to create some gorgeous hair and make some new friends.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Things don’t always go as planned. It is definitely not something as a business owner that we want to hear, but it does happen. When starting Pins+Knots, my family and I had just moved back to Kansas from Phoenix. In Phoenix, I was working my dream job with Drybar and that was hard to let go of. Once in Kansas, I worked a few places but never made a full connection there even when giving it all I could (looking back though, it fills my heart to see God’s bigger plan). That is how Pins+Knots began. I had decided it was time to start from scratch again. Create a business that I loved to its core and where I could be myself. I went from consistency, to asking everyone if they wanted their hair done. Pins+Knots celebrated 5 years this past October. She has gone from building her business from scratch, to surviving the Covid shutdown after only a year of being in business, to some of the best years after. I have had a few key takeaways so far and I know I will probably learn so many more. I have had to learn to ebb and flow, trust my gut and always be thankful for the opportunities I am given.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for Pins+Knots has been the weddings and events I have been a part of already! Word of mouth has consistently been the strongest ally for building my business. I truly believe this is a source that can stand the test of time, AKA social media. Instagram was a newer platform when I first began hair and looking back now, I am thankful for that. It taught me to trust the process, the hustle, and the gift or word of mouth! Don’t get me wrong, Instagram has been an incredible tool for Pins+Knots, it is an entire reference page for your skills for future clients to look through. However, I truly believe nothing beats the personal touch. At weddings, not only do I stye brides, but it is an opportunity to style bridesmaids that will be future brides as well! That right there, that is where the magic can happen. They can get to know you, your personality and fingers crossed want you to be their stylist before they are even engaged!
