We were lucky to catch up with Danielle Elaine Aka Ladye Laine recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Property of Ink mag is a Tattoo magazine bringing the public a collective of the Ink Lifestyle! We believe in Ink Therapy and the positive impact tattoos have in people’s lives! Property of Ink is to live and breathe the tattoo community as a collective whole! As the owner of POI mag I personally have used tattoos as a form of therapy for positive mental health including self acceptance, covering what I deem to be flaws on my body, and a huge endorphin release which relieves stress and calms my anxiety! Tattoos can cover painful scars such as physical or mental scars, ink also decreases stress, and is a huge creative outlet for self expression which is so important in today’s world!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Sure, I’m Danielle aka Ladye Laine and I wear many hats! I’m a multi published tattoo model acquiring several magazine covers, interviews, and have done VIP events. During the process of getting my BodyArt I began to realize I can use tattoos as a means of ink therapy. Tattoos allowed me to release endorphins cutting out a lot of stress in my life and triggered self acceptance! I also gained a huge respect for the tattoo artists I’ve encountered and met along the way. I began to study and research Tattoo History and Art which gave me a true sense that this practice was an ancient one that needed to be protected. I also was able to work in several tattoo shops as support staff. My respect for the community increased prompting me to want to give back by creating a space for artists/ink models alike to showcase their art. I wanted to highlight the industry in print and immortalize the stories and art by creating a magazine that will do just that. Long after we’re gone people can read about tattooers who have helped shaped the industry, ink stories of many in the community, photos of tattooer’s work, still frames of models with amazing bodyart, and the subculture that follows this amazing industry! Property of Ink Mag was then born! The magazine allows artists from all over the map to submit tattoo work, art done in several mediums, graphic designs, murals, graffiti art, and canvases with skin art to be published in print. We also offer posters and interviews on established names in the community to be heard. Property of Ink Mag provides a platform for the tattoo community as a whole collective to creatively express their work in print bringing the nostalgic aspect back to the artists. This magazine encompasses the lifestyle as a whole and allows our readers to be apart of the art and delve into what our ink community looks like. I’m honored to be able to create a publication for the creatives out there!

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
As far as managing a team communication is key! It sounds cliche but all too often companies just expect their team mates to know what to do after the initial job is explained. At Property of Ink, I keep the line of communication completely open to our team members at all times and every question is answered to the best of my ability. To keep the morale up of the team I regularly reach out and simply show that they are beyond appreciated. I make posters of the team members, do shout outs of them across social medias, and they receive free extras when we get them. Things like stickers, banners, and being included in the actual publication keeps everyone’s spirits high and we have a level of respect for one another that is unwavering.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
My family has had a huge impact in my business thinking. In my younger years I remember my grandfather owning multiple businesses throughout his life which had an impact on might thinking as well as my mother in her ventures. She was also a very important influence growing up! I watched her have careers at places like UC Berkeley and the Lawrence Livermore labs and only hoped to become a person of great value one day. People I’ve met along the way in life have also impacted my thinking! No books or essays could have shaped that thinking like seeing someone you respect succeed in their ventures!
