We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Danielle Derois a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle, thanks for joining us today. undefined
I believe the very foundation of my paint and sip business is innovative. I created something from the ground up—a one-woman, small business that blends creativity, community, and entrepreneurship.
As a stay-at-home mom, I used my ingenuity and resilience to transform a personal passion into a thriving art business that supports my family. I turned an interest into income, and built a space where others can come together, express themselves, and enjoy art in a fresh, approachable way.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a 34 year old stay at home mama. I started painting as a hobby during the COVID lockdowns, but it became something much deeper after the loss of my father. Art became a source of healing for me—an outlet that helped me process grief and find peace.
A turning point came when a friend and I attended a paint-and-sip class in Phoenix. On the way home, I thought, “Why can’t I do something like that?” That moment sparked the idea for my own business. I began reaching out to local businesses in downtown Prescott, and The County Seat Restaurant graciously offered to host my first events. They’ve supported me since day one, and I’m so grateful for that.
From there, I slowly built up my brand—creating a website where guests can book classes, and steadily growing my presence on social media. As a stay-at-home mom, being able to turn something I love into a source of income is a dream come true.
Some of my proudest accomplishments so far include regularly sold-out classes and being named a top 3 finalist for the 2025 Prescott Woman Awards.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
What began as a creative outlet during COVID has now blossomed into my full-time passion and business. It all started out of boredom, really—I revisited painting during lockdowns, but after losing my father unexpectedly, art took on a deeper meaning. It became a lifeline—a way to process my grief and express myself.
Art has always been a passion of mine, but this season of life gave me the push to take it seriously. With a mix of emotion, ingenuity, and perseverance, I turned something deeply personal into something I could share with my community. That leap of faith paid off. My classes consistently sell out, and I’ve reached a point where other businesses and individuals now seek me out to host events.
One of the biggest milestones for me was being invited by the Prescott Public Library to get involved in their arts programming. I now run monthly craft classes for both kids and adults. These opportunities have made me feel more connected to my community than ever before.
What makes me especially proud is that I’ve done this all as a one-woman show. From organizing events to building my brand, every part of this business has been a labor of love. Being recognized as a top 3 finalist for the 2025 Prescott Woman Awards is just the cherry on top. More than anything, it’s deeply validating to know that people see me and value what I bring. Art has given me that—and I’ll always be grateful.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I truly believe my personality has been one of the biggest factors in building my brand. I make a real effort to be personable, funny, and approachable during my classes. While guests are there to create art, most people see my paint-and-sip sessions as a social experience—something fun and casual they can enjoy with friends, a drink, and a good laugh. So I do my best to create a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable, regardless of their skill level.
I think what really resonates with people is that I’m relatable. I’m a stay-at-home mom just trying to earn extra income doing something I genuinely love. I’ve turned a personal passion into a creative business, and I think people are inspired by that. They see the heart behind what I do, and that connection builds trust and community around my brand.
