We were lucky to catch up with Danielle Demi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Danielle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
There’s been a constant theme in my career and on my entrepreneurial journey and it’s to keep going. Regardless of the obstacles and accomplishments, the calling for success is resilience. It’s not only about hitting goals, it’s about continuing to strive through the wins and losses as a business owner.
My client turned mentor and friend, Liz Illg taught me so much about the possibilities of entrepreneurship. She independently started and scaled a grooming shop with no experience. Then, she went on to start a marketing agency. While she was running her grooming shops and agency, she was filming YouTube videos to share tips about work-life balance.
I value her mentorship and her transparency. She shared the wins and losses of being a serial entrepreneur and how to stand firm. She shared financial milestones with me along with the not-so-pretty struggles of a brick-and-mortar business owner, like replacing appliances or navigating the pandemic with a workforce.
I started my journey as a virtual assistant and then started teaching other women how to do it. Now, I look at the future and I’m able to visualize even more ways to impact women, and the digital world. When I plan for success in my goals, I know it’ll require persistence, resilience, and a mindset to always reach for more.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Danielle Demi and I’m the Co-Founder of GrowthFocus. I teach women how to start an online Virtual Assistant business. I was able to leave my nine-to-five corporate life when I discovered I could monetize my skills with an online V.A. business. A few months after I graduated from college, my mentor asked me to be her virtual assistant. I had no idea what the job would entail but I knew I was unhappy clocking in at my desk job. I took her up on the job offer and my life was changed forever. As a virtual assistant, I did things like managing emails, posting on social media, and writing, from the comfort of my home. Growing up, I had two nine-to-five, corporate working parents, and I always wished I had more time to spend with them. Two weeks of vacation a year just isn’t enough time to spend with your parents as a kid. I dreamt that one day, I wouldn’t have to choose between my job and family life. When I started my at-home, virtual assistant business, my dream came true. I’m passionate about building strong families and empowering women to own their careers. I don’t believe women should have to choose between a fulfilling career and raising their children. I’m motivated to teach women how to monetize their gifts and skills as a virtual assistant. In the future, I hope more women start their own digital businesses and spend more time building a life they love.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I was a freelance project manager in the digital marketing world and was looking for work. Someone had posted in a Facebook group I was in, looking for a project manager (PM), so I sent them my resume and a small pitch. The person mixed up the position that was actually open for hiring but referred me to a friend who had a need for a PM. It was a connection from heaven. I met Liz and we instantly hit it off. She hired me to help her manage her digital marketing agency and the rest was friendship history. While our relationship started as client and freelancer, our shared dreams and visions made us besties for life. We both shared a vision for teaching women how to start digital businesses with passion and care. We had the idea of a business to help other women and that’s GrowthFocus.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Women can trust that they’re learning from someone who’s done what they want to do at GrowthFocus. We have a virtual assistant course that teaches women how to start their businesses without getting stuck in the process. We’re able to teach women how to start because we did it and we know what obstacles they’re up against and how to avoid them. I’m a virtual assistant who was able to completely replace my corporate income as an at-home freelancer. I ditched the nine-to-five life and achieved a work-life balance. Liz, the other half of GrowthFocus, is a serial entrepreneur who builds profitable businesses. Together, we have so many insider tips and trade secrets to share with women which makes the GrowthFocus curriculum unique, exclusive, and valuable.
