We recently connected with Danielle Cobo and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Danielle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
We may find it difficult to make big changes in our lives because of the uncertainty of what might happen. It takes great determination to take a leap of faith and make decisions based on who you want to be, not who you are now.
Most people give up after a few failed attempts, but that’s where the real winners separate themselves from the pack. Reframe how you view failure as a time to take a pause and reflect on what you learned from the most recent challenge. When faced with the same situation again, what would you do differently to achieve a different outcome? Reframe the view of failing to an opportunity to learn, grow, pivot, and prepare yourself for the next phase. Grit is the key to success. It’s not about how often you get knocked down; it’s about how quickly you get back up and keep going.
When you start taking steps towards becoming that better version of yourself, the universe will conspire to help you get there. Embrace uncertainty and let go of your need for control. This doesn’t mean you stop planning or working hard, it just means you learn to accept that things may not always go according to plan. And that’s okay!
If you really want something bad enough then there will never be any obstacles in your way because nothing can compare with determination-no matter how strong an obstacle might appear at first glance. Fear of failure is a mindset. It’s scary to think about making big changes in our lives, because we might not like the new version of ourselves. But it’s also what makes life exciting and full of potential.
Danielle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I serve professionals who feel stuck in their careers, discouraged by their quota, and burnt out. I show them how to achieve their goals, without sacrificing their personal life. Whether they want to get a promotion, find a new job, or start a business the feeling of clarity on how to accelerate their career is priceless. I have over 15 years of experience in medical sales, earning four consecutive Presidents Club Awards as a top performer, and leading a team at a Fortune 500 company to #1 in the nation. Within one year of leaving corporate, I own a successful six-figure career coaching business.
When I am not helping professional thrive in their career, I can be found trying to keep up with my 4-year-old thrill-seeking twin boys. If you are dying to know more, here are 3 things you don’t know about me. I am a military spouse, and you may have seen our Christmas card go viral in 2019, I’ve traveled to over 10 countries (thank you Presidents Club trips), and my sales career began when I was 7 years old selling mistletoe to raise money for my family’s Christmas presents and helping couples pucker up during the holidays.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My life today gives people the impression that I’ve had it easy. But my path to success wasn’t easy. When I was two years old, I was kidnapped by my mother; I met my father at age 15; then kicked out at 17 years old with my clothes stored in trash bags. I moved between friends’ houses while working full time to graduate high school. I’ve dealt with some significant setbacks, but it also forced me to learn firsthand the importance of resiliency and how to transform self-doubt into resilience, drive, motivation & confidence.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
During the summer of 2020, I started posting on LinkedIn to add a little positivity to a world filled with uncertainty. As part of my effort to thrive during difficult times, I started posting motivational quotes and advice. People began to respond, and I was inspired to share more. Every time I shared my story of overcoming some of the most difficult challenges of life, I was flooded with messages thanking me for being so transparent. My story is often related to by others, but they are too afraid to share theirs. It takes courage to be authentic and vulnerable. Showing up and sharing your story allows you to connect with people on a deeper level. I went from having less than 2,000 followers on LinkedIn to having more than 20K in one year. Now I host the podcast “Dream Job with Danielle Cobo.” To address the confidence gap and why women often struggle with visibility, guests and I talk about how to find your voice, create your seat at the table, and how to be an amazing ally to other women in the workplace.
