We were lucky to catch up with Danielle Calcara recently and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle , appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I was sitting in a board meeting with the CEO and Marketing Director of the company I was working at, at that time, where I had come to be miserable, realizing I was not a 9-5, sit behind a desk and look at spreadsheets all day type of human. One of my bosses was complementing me on my taste in aesthetics, I looked back at her and just blurted out “Yea, I’m aesthetically obsessed.” In that moment, a lightbulb went off in my brain and that phrase “Aesthetically Obsessed” kept replaying on a loop. It must have been not even a week later I decided to launch my own company, and Aesthetically Obsessed would be the name of my new business, encompassing all of my knowledge, experience, and education in all things, fashion, beauty, and life styling.

Danielle , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Danielle Renee Calcara, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Merchandising and Retail Management in 2020, and I’ve been a professionally licensed Cosmetologist since 2008. My passion for being creative and helping others feel confident and beautiful has always been a constant in my life. The majority of my favorite childhood memories are those of opening up my ‘caboodle’ full of hand me down hairbrushes and make up and styling basically anyone who would let me. Styling my siblings and cousins for fashion shows and dance routines we’d plan at different family functions are a few other memories that are foundational blocks of who I am and how my business came to be all these years later. Having a solid self-confidence is key for living a full and authentic life. I’ve always been believer that we are all born with unique individual gifts and to use them to help others. My gift and love for aesthetics and making others feel their best is why I launched Aesthetically Obsessed.
I provide a wide range of services such as wardrobe curation and styling, personal styling, virtual styling services, personal shopping, wardrobe organization and editing, updating closet systems, along with professional hair styling and coloring services.
I help my clients solve a plethora of styling problems such as:
-Styling their unique body type
-Proper wardrobe color analysis
-Help curate the client’s unique style that is in alignment with who they are and/or who they want to become
-Personal shopping whether it be for lack of time or lack of comfort
-Editing through outdated and ill fitted wardrobe items
-Organizing to create a functional wardrobe space
-Wardrobe and Hair styling for professional photoshoots
I’m most proud of the positive impact that echoes beyond after working with a client. Seeing a client’s positivity and happiness and knowing their positive energy will expand onward in other areas in their life is what makes my work so rewarding. In helping one person experience a higher self-confidence and happiness, that expands from them into other areas of their lives and so on. It’s the ripple effect of happiness. I’m a true believer in positive energy, and when someone feels good about themselves that positivity is expressed in all areas of their life and beyond.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
As of late, the best source of new clients for me has been through Google searches. Building a website on my own was no easy task, especially when it came to the SEO placements throughout the different areas of my site. In the last few months something has kicked in with the algorithm gods and I’ve had a large uptick in new client prospects.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Network and Knowledge. Putting the work in, building a unique portfolio, and networking has aided me in the growth of Aesthetically Obsessed and the reputation I carry. What’s always been key for me is staying authentic in my approach with my clients and with my business but also remembering to keep learning and growing as a stylist and as a business owner.
