We were lucky to catch up with Danielle Buerli recently and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success can be defined so differently by everyone. I think in order actually to be successful you first have figure out what that means for you before you can arrive there. It is harder to work hard when you don’t really know where you are going. This is one of the many reasons I love working for myself, that I can define my own business and goals and really understand them.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a designer, illustrator, and artist working with brands and businesses thru my creative studio in Los Angeles. I have worked on a lot of different sides of the design process and have become most passionate about working directly with new brands. I help businesses look their best on and offline. I focus on holistic branding, and marketing that comes from intention and curiosity. I love helping new brands define their creative direction or filling in the gaps in their style. It is really satisfying to make what a brand already has, truly shine.
When I am not designing, I am working on my own art. I like to balance working for others with working for myself. It gives me a space to learn new skills that always feeds into how I can support others. I just drew and published a children’s book about my cats titled “Where the Cat Sleeps”. It is available in my online art shop.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I love being able to take a thought or idea and make it a reality. It is an amazing feeling after you finish a project and remember that not long ago it was just a conversation.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Being creative is not just a talent, but a skill that takes time and effort to develop. Sometimes you have a spark of talent at the start, but to use it in a real way as a creative you have to consistently work at it. Especially to create on command and to someone else’s expectation, it takes practice. If you are starting out, have patience with yourself and keep creating.
