Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Danielle Bowers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Danielle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
My business name, Something Jade, is in honor of my daughter who passed away in 2019. My business formed shortly after her birth and death during childbirth. I wanted to honor her everyday through my jewelry business and honor all the babies lost too soon!
Danielle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
In 2019 I was due with my first daughter. She passed during childbirth and my arms and hands were left feeling empty. A few months later I started my jewelry making business to keep my hands and mind busy. I had zero jewelry making experience but knew it was something that interested me. I researched and taught myself what I needed to know. It truly helped me in those first few months.
Family and friends anticipated my website launch and have supported from the beginning! Since starting my business, I have befriended lots of moms who have lost or who have shared grief with others who have lost their children way too soon!
Aside from my handmade jewelry, I now offer healing crystals and a variety of handmade brass decor.
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
I strictly sell on my own website, www.somethingjade.com and have not used other platforms to sell. Back in college I had a lesson on creating websites, specially using Squarespace. This website and platform builder has be a game changer for many. Their super interactive website design space is so easy to use. Everything happens within the site and has worked great for me for over a decade.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
One of my favorite things about social media has been the group of makers I have circled with! We are all in the same industry of creating jewelry and we all support one another every single day. Whether it’s a like or comment, or a shout out; we are always helping one another out to push each other forward. When I was first starting out, I actually reached out to other jewelry makers to look for assistance, such as where to purchase wholesale products. Starting out with zero experience, it felt like my only option. Some of us have become great friends and supporters!
