We recently connected with Danielle Barrois Moses and have shared our conversation below.
Danielle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
My first clients were family and long time friends. I created my graphics detailing the products from canva and posted on all of my social media platforms, i.e. Facebook, Instagram, and Twiiter. I started out selling products during covid19 such as non-touch tools to open doors, touch elevator buttons, etc.
My classmates were the first ones to jump on the products and I sold out quickly. I’ve gotten requests to order more and sold out quickly. I was very surprised but elated at the same time.
After the success of the tools, I moved to decorative masks. I added names, special quotes using my silhouette cameo and heat press. Then I upgraded to a sublimation printer and was able to print more creative designs such as celebrity images, HBCUs, etc.
Danielle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a little girl growing up in New Orleans, Louisiana, I always loved to draw and dabble in art. I would design clothing for my Barbie Doll, design homes and mansions, and abstract art.
During my senior year in high school (1989-90), I participated in a New Orleans Center of Creative Arts (NOCCA) program mentored by internationally-acclaimed New Orleans artist and muralist Richard Thomas.
Even though I did not major in art at Xavier University, I still have the passion for it.
Creole Rose Apparel began during the pandemic in 2020 as a simple online store on Etsy selling non-touch tools, t-shirts and masks. Within a few weeks, I closed my Etsy store and launch my own website, creoleroseapparel.com.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I utilize email marketing and use email automation, especially during Black Fridays, Cyber Days, and Holidays.
I have a loyalty program where customers can earn points by joining my app and purchasing items. I encourage customers to share pictures when they wear my items and I feature them on Instagram.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building an audience on social media is vital to your business’ success. I post using photos with faces and lots of videos. See below more steps to grow your brand on social media.
1. Create an account on the most popular social platforms; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and TikTok. It’s okay to create goofy and fun content on TikTok to gain followers and you’ll see that they will repost and share your stories.
2. Post content everyday on each platform including visuals.
3. GO LIVE! Sell products on live and have contests like raffles, caption contests, etc.
4. Use popular hashtags and encourage tagging.
5. Change profile pictures and post pictures.
6. Boost posts and buy ads.
7. Respond to DMs in a timely manner.
8. Use humor and be entertaining in engagements.
9. Never buy followers and fans.
