We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Danielle Allen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Danielle below.
Hi Danielle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
The idea of a podcast is pretty simple, but booking quality guests, editing the episode in a meaningful way, creating the marketing content, managing schedules and posting content is the tricky part.
I really started just by sending out email requests. And booking more and more people on the show. From there, it began to grow into a large well-defined platform for nuclear energy topics to be discussed in full detail.

Danielle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After nearly a decade working in emergency services—as a firefighter, paramedic, and commercial pilot—I made a bold pivot into the world of nuclear energy. It wasn’t an overnight change. The transition was rooted in years of curiosity, an insatiable drive to solve big problems, and a belief that the technologies shaping our future need better storytellers and bridge-builders.
I’m the creator and host of Naked Nuclear, a podcast and growing media brand that demystifies nuclear energy for a broad audience. Our goal is to make the nuclear field more transparent, accessible, and even—dare I say—cool. Whether it’s spotlighting career paths in the industry, breaking down complex reactor designs, or exploring how nuclear can power everything from cargo ships to moon bases, I bring technical clarity and human storytelling together. I also run NaNU Media & Marketing, the umbrella under which we create original nuclear-themed content, support energy companies with communications strategy, and build educational tools to grow the next-generation workforce.
What sets me apart is that I don’t come from a traditional engineering background. I hold a humanities degree from Princeton, a pilot’s license, and a paramedic certification—but I’ve trained myself in nuclear science from the ground up. That outsider’s lens gives me a unique ability to translate, simplify, and amplify voices within this highly technical space. I’m not just telling stories; I’m building pathways—for students, career-changers, policymakers, and the general public—to better understand and engage with one of the most misunderstood technologies of our time.
I’m most proud of how quickly Naked Nuclear has gained traction among both industry leaders and newcomers. In just a short time, we’ve interviewed guests from national labs, nuclear startups, utility companies, and advocacy groups across the globe. But this is just the beginning. We’re working on a TV show concept called Atomic Leap, launching a scholarship fund, and building tools like job boards and career quizzes to make nuclear careers more navigable.
At its core, my work is about making knowledge feel personal and possibilities feel reachable. I want people to know that nuclear isn’t just for physicists and policy wonks—it’s for the curious, the bold, and the creative.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
LinkedIn— creating personal outreach and asking questions to the broader network. Being able to ask folks to hop on a call and create a bit of real world connection

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The planet. I don’t think you have to look very far to see the damage humans have done, and it’s about time we engage with energy systems that take a holistic approach to how we balance our energy needs.
