We were lucky to catch up with Dani Sanchez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dani, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
One of the biggest trends that I’ve noticed within the content creator space is an emphasis on dynamic storytelling. Having a fully crafted and well thought out plot to your piece, whether it be full-length YouTube videos or 1 minute TikToks, is essential to the success of modern creators. In my niche of Pokémon cards, I’ve noticed the content transform from simple unboxing videos showing the new packs to elaborate challenges, adventures, and fully documented journeys to collect and find new Pokémon cards.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my YouTube channel SuperDuperDani over 15 years ago and have been posting on it ever since! I am actually one of the longest standing Pokémon content creators on YouTube if you can believe it. I love creating things and finding interesting ways to tell stories, and when I got a camera for my 11th birthday, I never put it down. I’ve spent most of my life creating videos in many different niches, including doing professional video work in Los Angeles and New York city, where I shot and directed social media shows for YouTube and Snapchat. I’m currently a full-time Pokémon card content creator with over 400,000 followers cross-platform, which I am very proud of!
Over the years I’ve also had the opportunity to collaborate with brands such as Nintendo, Google, Instagram, eBay, and Target all through my passion for collectibles on SuperDuperDani. I also co-host one of the highest-ranked Pokémon podcasts online called the Shadowless Podcast, and sell merchandise through my website SuperDuperTCG.com.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part for me is definitely being able to share my videos and ideas with my community. Being able to create a space for others to interact, find friends, and even get away from the world for a bit is truly what makes it worth it for me as a video creator.
I also have the opportunity to travel and meet members of my community all over the world at collectibles conventions and Pokémon tournaments, and as someone who loves exploring and meeting new people, it is a dream come true. Within the last couple of years I’ve traveled to several cities in Japan, London, Amsterdam, Hawaii, New York, and countless other cities across the United States for my YouTube channel, and it has been such an amazing experience to visit these places and also document them through the lens of a Pokémon collector.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think in general in the world of content creating, it is a very delicate balance of finding things that really fuel your creativity (things that you truly find interesting/engaging) and things that you know your audience will enjoy watching. It’s now more than ever become an algorithm game, where on top of making your art the way you want to make it, you also have to keep in mind a long list of digital metrics and strategies to boost engagement, watch time, etc. that will make or break the success of your video in the continuously changing social media landscape.
