Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daniella Mallia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Daniella thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was younger I was very big into watching YouTube tutorials for makeup and I loved watching all of the OG makeup gurus on YouTube. I always loved learning from the videos and loved experimenting with makeup. A dear friend of mine took a certification course in makeup growing up and once I realized I could continue my education of makeup and learn to do it on other people I was sold. I’ve always loved makeup and I knew that getting to do something I love as a career was so special.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have loved makeup since I was a child. I knew I wanted to learn to do makeup on other people for a long time. I began my journey in 2022 when I finally decided to take a certification course in makeup artistry. I couldn’t have been more grateful to get to do what I love most as a job. I do all types of event makeup, but my most favorite is bridal. Getting to make a bride feel beautiful on her special day is a feeling like no other. One of the best parts of this industry is you are making people feel good about themselves and feel beautiful. It is also super important throughout the makeup world to be able to connect with your clients. Asking questions and making them feel comfortable in your chair is probably the most important part of the job itself. I always tell my clients to let me know what they feel comfortable with and their likes/dislikes. You want your client to walk out of your chair happy, so communication is key!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is getting to make people feel beautiful again. There are so many clients I have had that have not gotten their makeup done in either years or at all. Seeing their face light up when they look in the mirror and can’t believe how amazing they look and feel is so special.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first wanted to pursue makeup I had some people ask “why would you want to do that?” or doubt my ability. I remember my teacher telling me that I was not ready to do a bride for at least two years. I thought to myself well I hope I get to prove her wrong and I was able to do makeup for 2 brides within that first year. I know I have more learning and growing to do, but knowing how far I have come makes me so proud.
