We recently connected with Daniela Pereyra and have shared our conversation below.
Daniela, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
I consider myself a go-to person for making things happen. At times, my clients may perceive me as the hero of their story, but I think I’m the supporting character and they’re the hero. In my line of work, no one accomplishes anything they don’t want to do or have the means to do. I serve as a strategic guide in order to coordinate between different parties, their timelines, and their motivations. I worked with a client that told me I didn’t just help him sell his home, I also gave him the chance to live his retirement dream. That’s powerful. I recognize this client felt as though it wouldn’t have happened without me, but it would have – it just would have happened differently. It’s my awareness that my work impacts the “how” and not the “what” that makes me different from the industry standard. Additionally, our industry is driven by numerical figures and sales – I strive to foster an environment that’s driven by memorable experiences and sustainable practices. It’s the story of us in this process together, each and every time.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my career in real estate at the age of 25 for all the wrong reasons. I was interested in being a tour guide, which I missed from my time in college, and I thought that this would be most of my work in real estate. It seemed simple and fun. More than 5 years later, I can say that it is fun but for other reasons, and certainly not simple. My career became a lifestyle I’m thankful for. I offer buyer and seller representation in real estate transactions as a broker, specializing in residential new construction homes. I’m a multifaceted entrepreneur in this field and this has led to me becoming a keynote speaker in various entrepreneurial settings as well, sharing insights and tactics prompted by my business journey. The main problem I solve for my clients is the careful balance between scarcity and abundance – this broad statement truly encompasses a wide variety of occurrences. Doing this with a grateful approach sets me apart from others in my field. I see myself as someone who helps others by stepping up to the opportunity I asked for and delivering. I’m most proud of my diligence and outstanding attention to detail. I’d like potential supporters to know that my priority is living life by design and I don’t do anything I don’t want to do, so every time you see me working on something or with someone, know that it’s done with care and enthusiasm.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
A phrase a college professor of mine said years ago stuck with me – “Simple plot, complex characters”. I realized then that he had described in simple terms what I love so much about stories, especially in films or shows. I think of this phrase regularly in my business. That’s where the influence of “how” comes in. I work with people, their motivations, timelines, frustrations, excitement, fears, etc. The transactions I handle can be simplified to selling and buying, sure, but the complexities within each party’s journey dictate how I’m going to move in each stage – what I’m going to say and do and the manner in which I’ll present it all. I’m in the business of win-win scenarios. I refuse to take advantage of anyone. I keep in mind daily that it’s not just sales, it’s people’s lives.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I often say that when you do something you enjoy, it becomes a sustainable practice. I network to grow my clientele and opportunities. It’s something I’ve done my whole life, it’s just that outside of a professional environment people call it “being social”. I’m a very social person who’s energized by people, relationships, and discussions. What I already do in my personal life is also what I do in my professional life and I call it “dating my network”. This includes, following up with existing connections regularly to chat over a tea/lunch date and also cultivating new connections, which often come from the existing ones as well. I’m present at every event I’m invited to unless something else is already on the calendar or I’m physically ill. I show up with purpose, not just to honor the relationship but also to initiate new ones.
