We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Daniela Ortega a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Daniela, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My business started because I always had the chance to work in retail and fashion, because of this I found out the potential Colombian creativity and handmade products had, also I am a big fan of creating in color different and special products. So this connected with a empowering content was the perfect equation for created Maramba Accessories.
The branding came up in a beautiful and personal trip I did to polynesian islands where I met locals and found out Maramba was the word for joy and this was the exact moment I decided I wanted to create a special brand very colorful, with good quality and of course all the caribbean vibe I have from my beloved Colombia.
Daniela, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My Journey started in the Retail Business, this experience made me realize I had to do something to support local creativity and talent, all this because I had a very close view of how non fair factories worked and how this low prices impacted in a very hard way the economy of many artisans, artists and small companies in different countries, just like Colombia.
In Maramba Accessories we are focused in designing beautiful handmade earrings by local woman artisans, with beautiful and statement designs. Our products and packaging are handmade in Colombia. As a woman brand we want to connect from positivity, self esteem and of course joy to real and natural woman, I trully believe all Women Brands have this responsability.
Our Earrings are more than accessories are a symbol of joy and empowerement for all woman inside our business model, from the creative process until our final client.
I feel very proud of my designs and brand, because it´s made of very special materials and also we try each day to improove our client service, shipping timing and quality. We are now opening new markets outside Latin America and we want to really give so much joy and continue supporting our local artisans and country with our beautiful products.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
This is a daily work and the best advice I can give is persevere for your dreams and brand, believe me I know there are hard days and good days but sometimes we post and nobody gives a like or connects with the content, still today it happens, Instagram is one of the best social media for brand exposure but I think the algorythm and the continous changes the app has experienced since 2020 it´s insane, still is where our 90% of profits comes from so please if you are reading this keep going and please improove your images, invest in ADS, read, educate and if you can invest in Social Media Management and Ads performance Consulting or services.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think the best story any brand or new business is surviving and adapting to Pandemic of 2020, this year brought so much from everyone and of course that was my case, in this year I remember I thought if I am going to stay lockdown forever or whatever happens I have to improove and use my time for increasing my brand awareness, designing, organizing and stablishing new digital marketing strategies, specially on e-commerce, instagram, business whatsapp and so much others. I had days I remember I was so anxious and NO SALES! but I continue day by day, change website, improove pictures and there I started a very nice and great moment for my brand! I think this year I started a new chapter for the brand and for me as a business owner, entrepeneur and business woman.
