We recently connected with Daniel Wright and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Daniel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I was very young, probably 5 or 6, I always had a desire to become en entertainer. I absolutely loved music, and would often sing along to songs in the car. I remember getting my first radio that had a CD player in it when I was about 7 I think. I would play CD’s for hours, singing along, pretending like I was giving a concert and performing for an audience. I had a huge imagination when I was a kid. Film though, was what really inspired me the most. Being able to watch a movie and be transported into that world that the characters are in, to be able to feel what they feel and see how the story transpires really inspired me. I remember thinking to myself “that is what I want to do when I grow up”. I wanted to be able to take the words off the script and use them to not just tell a story but to create a meaningful experience for the people watching. Film has made an impact on my life like nothing else has, I have a huge respect and admiration for actors, directors, writers and all of the crew members it takes to make a production come to life. My one wish in life is to be able to positively impact somebody through my acting and filmmaking.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Im currently 31 years old, living in Los Angeles and still actively pursuing my career path as an actor as well as a musician. I have always found an escape in the arts, songwriting and guitar playing are a few things in addition to acting that I strive to continue to pursue. I originally came to Los Angeles in 2014 and within a year, I felt very lost, confused about my path in life and I honestly didn’t know if this was the place for me. I knew that I had always wanted a career in entertainment, specifically acting, and I had always been somebody who went after the things that they wanted. I went on my first audition in 2015, and it was one of the worst experiences i’ve ever had in my life. I was terribly nervous, stumbling over lines, nothing, absolutely nothing i was doing in the audition room was correct. I got a look from the casting directors that still haunts me to this day. The next day I enrolled in an on- camera acting class in Santa Monica and from there I started to be able to lay the foundation of technique and obtain a much deeper sense of confidence in my own self as well as my ability as an actor. If I had to choose something that I would say sets me apart from the others, I would say grit, confidence and perseverance. I have experienced a great deal throughout my life, and , like most people, have endured a fair share of trauma. I have had many people tell me that I’ll never make it, i’m just not good, etc. and no matter what people tell me, I keep going.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The main goal, for me, is to simply inspire others. If i can positively impact somebodies life through my art, then I feel like i have succeeded. I think art, for me film and music, have always been there for me through dark times and I feel like it’s one of the most meaningful and impactful parts of society today. Film has the power to change lives, to know that and to be in a position to pursue that, is the main mission that drives my creative journey.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding part of being an artist, is having the opportunity to constantly be evolving, changing and growing. Every project that I have ever worked on has been a learning experience. Being able to collaborate with like minded individuals who are also pursing a similar goal is one of the most meaningful experiences to me. Another major rewarding aspect is the ability to be expressive through art. Not every job or career path really gives you the ability or opportunity to actually, legitimately express your true self. That is something that comes through beauty, pain, joy and is eventually communicated through the film or song.
