We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Daniel Vitti. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Daniel below.
Alright, Daniel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I’d like to have the chance to continue to teach for long enough so the kids and teenagers that are my students today bring their own kids to our school so they can benefit of the bjj practice.
Daniel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was involved with martial arts since the age of 7. Initially with karate for 11 years. After that I had 5 years of college where I became a civil engineer. At the age of 25 my Jiujitsu journey began by the influence of my brother and some friends. I’m very competitive and I fell in love with it since the beginning.
I got to the black belt in 2013 and became a school owner in Brazil in 2014. At this time still dividing my time between my engineering and bjj career.
At the year of 2017 the big change happened. My family and I moved to Fulshear and started Gracie Barra Fulshear and since then we live exclusively from this business. We are about to complete four years of operation with more then 200 students from ages of 3 up to 60.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
During the Covid shutdown we lost 40% of our students at the time. We continue to operate remotely, offering online classes and when business like ours were allowed to reopen we started to grow the number of students month after month.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
“You can’t teach heart” is very comum saying in the martial arts/sports environment. After this years teaching on the mats I’ve seen many cases that prove it wrong. I’ve seen kids and adults going through a great transition in their personality, having such a growth on their confidence and self esteem levels.
