Daniel , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
I get to call Omar Delgado a leader, my mentor, my boss, and most importantly my friend. Mr. Delgado came into my life during the COVID-19 pandemic through Twitter. I had just started out my life as a professional sports broadcaster and with that comes a lot of daily tweets regarding sports headlines. Mr. Delgado saw I was an alumni from the school he works at in which he is also an alumni and thought I was doing great work so he decided to reach out to me. He is the head of CCNN Live which is our school’s broadcast program. Without a doubt he quickly offered me a chance to come help out his students with sports commentary. I quickly said yes and this allowed me to be reconnected with a school that means so much to me. It gave me the chance to take my talent/knowledge and give that to someone else. Along the way I’ve learned extreme work ethic from Mr. Delgado which has pushed me in my own life to outwork anyone in the room. His passion for what he does and his will to win every day is something I try to emulate. Delgado has taught me how to help others even if it is your opponent. He brings that same energy to our friendship and that’s what I consider a leader.
Daniel , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a sports broadcaster having served my time as the voice of Florida International University Athletics and into the professional world with Inter Miami CF in Major League Soccer. I currently work as the voice of Miami-Dade College Athletics as well as some work for Major League Soccer. I own PlugTalkSports which is a sports media company with its own website and podcast weekly which started in 2018.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
During the 2021 Major League Soccer season as part of the Inter Miami CF Broadcast Team, I became the youngest commentator in league history at just 22 years old. I think for me that shows the passion, dedication, and will to be great to have achieved something like that so early on in my career and to be at that level so early on. It’s something that I am very proud and humbled to have accomplished.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me personally it’s the feeling of people telling you that they enjoy your work. I love putting in all the hard work so that I can have readers and viewers enjoy it. I see sports as a getaway from the rest of the world so I get happy when I hear someone say they loved hearing to my podcast for an hour weekly or reading any of my articles.
