We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Daniel Square. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Square below.
Square, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Meaningful projects, or as I like to all them, “Passion projects” are important to express your own creativity. To be honest, I think this is what separates an artist from somebody who just might provide a service. Providing a service is more so accomplishing the goals of someone else, but those passion projects are the ideas of your own, which, in my opinion, makes it more meaningful.
These projects are essential. I try and at least do 4 passion projects a month, no matter what it takes. I would motivate every artist to chase after these. Because in the long run these projects will indeed get you further.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For people who do not know, my name is Daniel Square, people often call me by my last name, and I am a 23 three year old visual artist. I was born in Atlanta, Georgia but was raised on the westside of Detroit, Michigan. I primarily try and do my work in the fashion industry, but sometimes fashion can mix into other industries as well. Fashion photography and cinematography is my passion. I am most proud of where I came from. Growing on six mile wasn’t easy, and overcoming the battles that I went through is not something everybody in the community can do. So I am thankful that am able to express my pain and feelings through my work.
I often create projects based off passed events or feelings that I may come across in in everyday life. As far as fashion goes, I love making eccentric and unique photographs through film. I feel as if film gives everything a timeless look, and I want my work to be relatable and memorizable to those who see it decades from now.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Nothing is better than seeing the finish product of what you created. Having an idea is one thing, but being able to execute on it and come out with a finish product is the best feeling in the world to me. It often takes a lot of energy and planning to come up with majority of the concepts I have in my head. Especially since these concepts may be inspired by real life experiences.
It is also nice to be able to own a piece work that people enjoy. Most of the time I can tell people “I did this”, or “this idea came to mind because”. Just having the ownership of my own art is great because I feel everything that I create is so unique to me and who I am as an individual.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Not at all, the struggle is apart of the journey, and the struggle is needed to help influence the art. People with the highest of budgets and the most resources can create lack-luster work. The learning experience is one of a kind. I made what I could with what I had, and personally, I believe it turned me into a better artist.
