We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Daniel Salazar a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Daniel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s go back in time to when you were an intern or apprentice – what’s an interesting story you can share from that stage of your career?
Nothing gives you more experience and exposure faster than internships, apprenticeships, and even free work. Providing value, offering help, and having a self-starting attitude will take you extremely far in networking and career building. I interned at the Utah Jazz in 2017 for one year and it was an amazing experience working on the corporate side of professional sports. After that I moved to Sao Paulo Brazil and did a no-pay internship in 2018 where I made amazing connections, became fluent in Portuguese, and gained a broader understanding of our world. For the young people out there, take any opportunity you have to intern or work under people with more knowledge and experience than you!
Daniel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a diversified entrepreneur living in Salt Lake City, Utah. I speak 5 languages; English, Spanish, Korean, Portuguese and Filipino or Tagalog. I make it a priority to interact with people who speak those languages and I love teaching people how to study and learn a new language. Having worked in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology over the last 4 years I also love to help people learn and understand this new financial market that is making progress in the US and all over the world. I am also running a rental property business where I currently own 3 properties and manage them myself. In the future I plan on owning over 50 doors and having a team to manage operations. I am a husband and father full-time and I love spending time with my wife and son. When I’m not working and making money I play on a competitive rugby team called the SLC Gladiators and I enjoy doing outdoor sports such as skiing, kayaking, mountain biking, and backpacking.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I started out working for a company doing customer support and translations. I soon realized because of the nature of being a start-up there was a lot of opportunity to grow. I decided to get into social media marketing and I started taking courses on Udemy to learn the best practices. After I learned the basics I did an evaluation of the company and I proposed the idea to move into a marketing role where they highly needed some work to be done. I was fortunate to get the new role as digital media manager and have continued working at the same company.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs have a lot of potential to grow into use cases outside of art. The market is so young and scams and theft have given it a bad reputation. Although as technology advances NFTs will become more relevant and useful to our society and marketplaces around the globe. They currently have interesting applications in sports, gaming, and art and soon could move into legal, real estate and medical.
