We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Daniel Prophete. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Daniel below.
Daniel , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I graduated with my bachelor in Hospitality Management in 2014. When I decided to fully pursue music in 2016, I quit my job and went back to Umass Lowell to study music with all his ins and outs. After getting my Bachelor in Music Performance and Business, I got my Master’s from Berklee College of Music in Valencia, Spain. I’ve also been listening a lot for the past 3 years and try to keep improving my craft. I’m a student of learning and will always be.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started learning guitar 13 years ago when I got inspired my cousin. I took some classes at Palm Beach State College but was split between work, working on my Bachelor in hospitality management and taking music classes so I stopped. I kept playing here and there but focused mostly on finding a 9-5 job after graduation. That life wasn’t really made for me so I quit and went back to school for music.
I am an artist/producer/engineer. I perform as a solo artist but also accompany other artists. My speciality as of late has been freelance music production, mixing and mastering. What I think sets me apart from other creatives is my versatility. I am proficient in genres such as Afrobeat, Reggae, RnB, Fusion, Bossa Nova. I can’t be put into a box because I have my own unique sound. I am proud of how far I’ve come as an artist in the last 7 years. Last year, I made a plan and executed which I’m super proud of.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is when a random someone comes to you and lets you know that your work has touched their lives.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Yes. Money and connections
