We recently connected with Daniel Olson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Daniel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have wanted to start my own business for a while. After working in retail for almost 10 years for both private and cooperate settings I began my research on how to start my own business. I watched a lot of YouTube channels trying to get all the information I could. After all the frustration of trying to find a business I could start with very little spare change in my pocket I thought to myself apparel would be fun since I have a degree in industrial design I could easily do that. Turns out its not all that expensive to do.
The hard part was coming up with a name and logo. Since I still have a full time job I spent hours after work putting name notes in my phone and drawing logos in my sketch book. Still interested and passionate about starting a business I heard someone on one of the YouTube channels say that you should be proud and happy with your failures in life. This person kept going on about how in school they teach you its wrong to fail and that you are bad at things when you do thus making you feel that it is a bad thing and that you are dumb. This is true in so many ways and not just school. while I was working up the courage to start my business my brother and my best friend were both working on their recovery because of their struggles with addiction. One of them has beaten heroine and the other alcohol. This is what really launched me to start my business. I thought if they could do that, why cant I start my own business. Thus applying the name Pride In Failure.
The most exciting part about starting my own business is letting people know that having pride in your failures is a good thing. I feel that a lot of us get pushed down by society and are frowned upon for what ever we are not successful at. My hope is to inspire people to take themselves to new heights. I want people to know learning from your failures is part of the process.

Daniel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who don’t know me my name is Daniel Olson, I am just your average millennial with the same struggles of the rest of them. I have 2 degrees, at my day job I am paid less than I need to survive. I have student debt, from a predatory school that is now closed. I suffer from depression and anxiety. I have beautiful wife and two dogs, and own my own home. I have been bullied and have never really felt passionate with much of anything. Since starting my own business the way I feel about life has changed and my passion for trying to make a difference has changed completely. I am most proud of myself for starting my own business, I am more excited about for my next line to come out on my business inspired by the people around me. My hope is to inspire all of you to do something new and learn something. My hope is to help inspire you to be a better person and let you all know that it is okay to fail as long as you learn something and try again. Don’t give up and have Pride in your Failures.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I had recently fell into a valley on my way to the top of the mountain. Learning that sometimes you need to go out and keep being involved with who or what inspires us as often as possible is very key. Its so difficult to keep going when life derails you. Just remember what inspired you or who inspired you and start diving back in.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I use Printify and Wix. Printify has been great for me so far. I don’t have the space to make any of my garnets. They take the design I provide them and they keep the inventory and do the printing. I love it for now its such a great idea for people in my exact scecnario. So far Wix made it so easy to create and make a website. trying to add and organize product is a little complicated but not impossible.
