Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daniel McCarthy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Daniel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew from the time I first heard Led Zeppelin at 8 years old that I wanted to be a rock star. It was like a switch went off in my mind. Today I still try to channel that youthful spirit as much as I can to help keep the dream alive.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into music when I was 10, I started out on the trumpet, and moved to guitar and soon started taking on flute and bass guitar as secondary instruments. After playing in different bands over my high school and college years, I decided to start Deziak and go out on my own. I had a portfolio of music, and decided it was time to record and release my debut album into the world. Around the same time, in 2020, I got into brewing mead, and thought it’d be a great idea to brand the meadery after Deziak.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’m sure there will be many more “pivot moments” on the journey ahead, but a big one for me was stepping up and growing into the leadership role within my organization. Prior to that, I tried to take a more passive, hands off approach. My thinking was it would be more democratic to take the opinions of others into consideration, and have a more “laid back” feel. But after a while of that I realized that it wasn’t working; we needed active management/leadership, not passive.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The easiest way to start would be for people to show up more. It could mean going to see and support your local bands, showing up to your friends paint gallery, going out to a local craft brewery instead of a chain.
