We recently connected with Daniel Mason and have shared our conversation below.
Daniel , appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue music professionally is when I heard gospel artists such as Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin & Fred Hammond. Growing up, all I knew was gospel music. My parents raised my sister and I in church. I grew up singing in the choir and eventually on the praise team. Gospel, R&B & Pop music had a big impact on me. When I was younger I wanted to be on Disney Channel so bad. Those moments watching “High School Musical & The Cheetah Girls” intensified my drive and passion to be in from of the camera/ on stage. .
Daniel , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started my my journey as a recording artist in 2015, at the age of 17. My first single was “War” featuring QT. Interesting fact, I didn’t know I had the flu at the time when I recorded the song. I was new to recording in the studio. I got over my nerves and completed the song. I was invited to perform the song for a domestic violence event the same week. However, I believe obstacles work in my favor and not against me. My determination pushed me to get well and get through the performance, The main thing I want followers or fans to know is, what is meant for you, will always be meant for you. Trust your gift. Trust the timing of life. Have faith in yourself and always remember to have fun. It was the message of “War” that inspired me to keep going. I will always spread a message of hope. You never know who may need it.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In 2017, My father passed away. Before finding out he passed I was rehearsing for a show in Macon, Georgia. Instead of canceling the show, I arranged it as a tribute show in honor of my father. Long story short, I faced obstacles along the way to get to that show. Delayed flight from New Orleans, car accident, storm coming from Atlanta to Macon. However, no matter what obstacles I faced. That did not stop me from making it to that show and delivering an emotional performance. Not only did it show my resilience but it proved my professionalism as an entertainer. I believe My father would’ve said “The show must go on.” He was a big supporter of my music and he inspired me to want to be in the music industry.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Society could encourage artists, creatives and other thriving individuals to express and explore all beneficial opportunities. Also Like a post. Share an independent artist’s music link. Give feedback to the artist. Show creatives, especially black creatives who don’t get the recognition they deserve. that you care about their art and what they have to offer to the world. I am a black creative and I am proud to have my music out in the world.
