We recently connected with Daniel Hirsch and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I have always loved the art of storytelling. I remember being obsessed with Disneyland as a kid. Ever since I watched the Disneyland sing-along video I was hooked. I would make dark rides in my garage and pull my younger brother and his friends through on a red wagon.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started performing in theatre at a young age which led to a fascination with props, sets, and costumes. Many theme park designers and creatives end up with theatre degrees. I graduated from SDSU and immediately went to intern at Disneyworld. I then worked in film creating special effects until I finally started working in themed entertainment. My first job as a set designer and dresser was with Dark Harbor, a Halloween haunt event on the Queen Mary in Long Beach CA. I then ended up getting hired for a job in Dubai and have traveled the world ever since creating exciting experiences for people all over the globe.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Getting to see people enjoy my work. I want to help them escape and have a great time. I want to inspire the next generation of story tellers and creatives when they experience my attractions and art.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Sure! I have moved a lot around the world, and each time was a major pivot. I had to start from scratch a few times as well but it only built my character in a great way. It helps you to stay adaptable and only hang on to the possessions and relationships that matter.
