We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Daniel Gould. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Daniel below.
Daniel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
When i dropped everything and moved to LA to pursue music. I had been making music and booking show for a few years in my hometown of Dallas Tx and while i learned so much and accomplished some really cool things like Preforming Emo Nite, Booking music festivals, etc. I still knew there was more work to be done. I had to take a risk and go to LA where the opportunities would be multiplied, even though i love my hometown. Since i moved here i released 2 EP’s with my label Atoned Music, met so many amazing people, and preformed at legendary clubs like the troubadour. Im still coming up but taking this risk changed my life for the good and i encourage others to step out of your comfort zone and take more risk.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
When i was 15 i wanted to start a band but i didn’t know how, but i started going to local shows and i observed how they were put together then went out and booked my own at J&J’s Pizza in Denton Tx. After that i fell in love with it one year later Third String Productions offered me a job and for the next 4 years (till covid happened) i booked multiple shows every month, everything from local to national acts at venues with 100-1500 capacity. When i was 17 i found Soundcloud and experimented and Danny Goo was born but i never took it as serious until i met my producer a year later JoJo Centineo, who is now my best friend and business partner in music. Didn’t take long for Atoned Music to DM me and offer me a record deal. I took it, moved to LA, and still am currently pursing my career out here. My mission is to make real music that people can feel and have stuck in their head all day, good quality music for the soul. My journey definitely hasn’t always been easy though, it taken years of work and bing passionate about music when covid-19 happened i lost my job as a promoter. I moved to LA during covid, i took a risk dove 100% into music and stopped worrying about booking shows. Its been worth it though being a performer is what i always really wanted to do. Starting this year in Feb i’m booking a show with a bunch of my friends just like i did when i was 15, now i’m 22 doing it all over. I’m looking forward to the future and to be able to create and connect with people through music, thats all i wanna do.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
For a little bit i was having writers block because i was too focused on making music for other people i stopped caring about how i felt about it. I had to re learn that no matter what if i don’t like the music i’m creating no one else will. I needed to believe in myself again. Ive been able to bounce back from that recently and have been on fire in the studio lately and it feels good. excited to show everyone what i’m working on.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I focus on a having fun and not being too serious on social media while also promoting my music and showing my personality to everyone. My advice is to put some money into ads and to stay consistent with it, and just being yourself. People are gonna hate regardless of what you do so worry about what you think about your accounts.
