We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Daniel Dyer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, thanks for joining us today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
So while keeping it anonymous my wife and I moved here just over 3 years ago with a plan for me to potentially work in podcast editing for a ministry in Nashville. Soon after moving my mom passed away, then our vehicles were broken into and stolen and then and then. I applied for a ministry working with the unhoused and whiled the man said I was full of the gospel, I wasn’t hired. Even with 4 years of experience a local mission turned me down as well as warehouse positions, I applied for that I had qualifications for. While we could not understand it seemed like every door we tried to walk through for provision and direction was locked.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My life for the better part of 19 years has been one as a creative with the heart of loving and serving in mind. My Instagram is actually everydayevangelism and while some might think that’s a fancy word for preacher ( although I am a licensed minister) it’s actually being an encouragement daily to everyone I run into from sam’s club to the mall or movies. So now while I am trying to sort out what I am suppose to be doing with the skills that I have, I began to start my own handyman side business last summer to cover us financially.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is helping single moms, widows and people in need who don’t have a lot but need repairs or work done. This also fuels my desire to start motivational speaking or guest speaking at churches. Lifeway had a worker telling me I should be preaching on the front lines and so while I believe that’s God’s plan for me while I am waiting for open doors of opportunity, I do what I can to help others at low cost to cover our family. My hopes is as doors begin to open for this, I would be able to continue to help single moms, widows and those in need for free in my spare time.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
So almost everyone I help will ask me what do I owe you and I have mostly said pay me what seems fair and that will be sufficient. Now to most business owners that sounds crazy but my heart believes God will provide and we are to owe nobody anything but love so in my heart I simply want to take the financial burden and stress out of the equation for most people. Sadly though I have had a handful of run ins were people tried to pay me a very small amount for multiple days or even nothing at all. Last year I had one person who thought $150 was too much for 3 hours of work so I said don’t pay me anything and I won’t be upset. They ended up paying me but it’s made me more open to ask early on what the customer was thinking for compensation.
