We recently connected with Daniel Clark and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, thanks for joining us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
We have traveled almost 30,000 miles so far, through 25 states, performing in the streets of cities and tiny towns alike. We are literally powered by music! We are passionate about music and want to bring that passion to the people. Music inspires, connects, it allows us to create freely and it can really change the vibes of a location. We love to lift people up through our music!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are The Traveling Hoose Family, or Hoose Fam for short. Hailing from Scotland, we named our dwelling after the Scottish word for ‘house’ as we were always talking about it as ‘the hoose’ anyway! Daniel Michael and Thistle have always been musical, but really decided to pursue our dreams after we married and had kids. Our dreams were to travel, play music, homeschool, and to create our own unique path through this beautiful world. We have been touring the States full-time for almost 2 years, and during that time have started to build a following in the tiny home and musical communities. We recently reached our big milestone of 1000 followers on FB.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
We want to live simply, with as few possessions as we can have with 3 kids and a cat! We want our lifestyle to be built around our core values and we enjoy traveling everywhere in the comfort of our own home! We love home educating, and having so many opportunities to go on field trips makes it interesting for all the family. We all love learning. Arts is a huge part of our curriculum, as well as science, plant identification, and business studies. We want to use our skills to make our living and live a creative life, where every day is different. Variety is the spice of life! We love the community and making connections far and wide!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
We busk in all weathers! In Port Aransas, we got stuck in the mud with no money. I walked a couple miles down to the pier and busked for about 6 hours to make some money to get towed. In the scorching heat! Meanwhile, Daniel was digging the Hoose out with his hands, and some kind local man pulled him out. Not only that, they bought us a beach pass so we could camp right by the water! And gave us snacks for the kids. The man picked me up and took me back home (I had no phone at the time) and his wife was lovely too. People are kind, you just have to keep on trying!
