We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Daniel Britton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Daniel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
As a professional photographer, when I began my journey I wanted the opportunity to create ART with my clients, instead of simply creating content. In my opinion the value of a photograph in recent years has been far undervalued. My goal with each and every client I have worked with over the years was to create striking and impactful imagery that prompts thought into the creativity it took to create that image.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
More than 10 years ago I decided to pursue the passion I had for photography and build a business behind that passion. I wanted to be able to do something meaningful for myself and help other create life long memories through my camera. I began my career in the fine art world, where I had an opportunity to display my artwork for the world to see in both public and private galleries in Las Vegas. After a a few short years, I found myself pursuing commercial photography in which I pursued assisting companies in building their brand by a unique and artistic approach to the images I created. Some of the notable companies I had an opportunity to work with include Jackery, Earthbound Trading Co, Overland Vehicle Systems, ZLINE Kitchen & Bath just to name a few. In my time working with these companies I had the opportunity to assist in building brand identities, and telling a story through the photos I captured. One of the most notable accomplishment was having such an influence on a brand with my approach to photographing their products which inspired a complete rebranding of that company. It is and always will be my goal to approach photography, whether it be a large corporation, a small business or a private client, to create the most impactful, stunning and memorable imagery that makes the viewer stop and ponder what they are looking at.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me and my experience, one of the most rewarding aspects of being a creative is the ability to create a story through my imagery. The current creative market is so incredibly oversaturated and driven by the amount of content that the public consume on a daily basis. Knowing that with my photography I have an opportunity to slow that consuming down for even just a moment so that the viewer has a chance to put some thought into the image they are viewing is one of the most rewarding things I find in being a photographer.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson I had to learn in my journey as a photographer was not allowing others to place the value on the art I create. All too often we as creative get caught up in self value based on the likes or comments we get when it comes to the art we post. And we all need the gentle reminder as to why we pursued this path in the first place. For me, it was to give people a different perspective to a photo, whether that be of a beautiful mountain scene or a kitchen appliance. The success to me, is when that viewer takes just one more moment to look at that photo and absorb the story being told.
