We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Daniel Antonio Ramirez Perez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Daniel Antonio below.
Alright, Daniel Antonio thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
Looking back, I don’t wish I had started my creative career sooner or later—the timing was authentic to my journey, though I sometimes wonder what might have been different with an earlier professional focus.
My relationship with music began in childhood, watching my father play his Yamaha organ from the 80s. When he wasn’t home, I’d sneak over and experiment with it, drawn to the sounds despite having no formal training. My musical foundation developed in school, where I learned basic theory and played flute, piano, and marimba during grades 1-6. I even joined my Catholic school’s church choir, despite my voice being merely adequate.
By 15, about twenty years ago, I began crafting my own melodies and compositions. I bought my first keyboard at 16 years old, which was a Kurzweil K2000VP which I still own and play regularly, being a huge fan of progressive rock and metal of course… which have been enormous influences in my music. My musical interests were also heavily shaped by friends who played guitars and drums—we were all passionate rock and metal fans from around age 12. However, I treated music-making as a personal pursuit rather than a serious career path for many years.
It wasn’t until 2020 that I finally began publishing music I had written and recorded. I still maintain my day job, as making a living solely as an artist is challenging, but I’m grateful I’m taking this creative risk now.
Had I started professionally sooner, perhaps I would have developed more industry connections or technical skills by now. However, I value how my approach allowed my creativity to develop organically, without commercial pressures. The timing ultimately gave me life experiences that inform my music today, creating something authentic that might not have existed otherwise.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Daniel, known professionally as Darpsyx, straddling two worlds as both a JEE (Java Enterprise Edition) full stack developer and an electronic music composer. I’ve been working in software development since 2010, but music creation has always been my passionate outlet—a necessary creative release that helps balance the structured nature of my day job.
My musical journey is deeply rooted in self-exploration. As a self-taught keyboardist, I create soundscapes that traverse the landscapes of the mind, primarily focusing on Synthwave, IDM, experimental, and cinematic genres. By age 15, I was already crafting complex melodies that drew from an eclectic range of influences—from electronica and progressive rock to metal, fusion, and classical compositions.
What sets my work apart is this diverse palette of influences. Artists like Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Vangelis, and Jean-Michel Jarre have shaped my electronic sensibilities, while progressive visionaries such as Arjen Anthony Lucassen, Devin Townsend, and composers like Hiroki Kikuta have informed my approach to arrangement and storytelling through sound. I weave these influences into something uniquely mine—blending lush keyboard arrangements with electronic beats, symphonic elements, and ambient textures to create immersive sonic experiences.
My background in technology and love for science fiction naturally infuse my compositions. As a developer by day and a sci-fi enthusiast at heart, I channel these interests into creating music that feels like journeys through futuristic worlds and emotional landscapes. This intersection of technology and emotion is central to my artistic identity.
What I’m most proud of is the authenticity of my creative process. For over a decade, music has been my sanctuary—a personal voyage into sound that I’ve only recently begun sharing with the world. My compositions aren’t created to follow trends or fit into specific boxes; they’re genuine expressions of my inner world.
I want listeners and potential fans to know that my work invites them into spaces where technology and emotion harmoniously collide. I’m not just creating songs but crafting experiences that transcend traditional genre boundaries. Whether you’re a fellow progressive rock enthusiast, an ambient music explorer, or simply someone looking for soundtracks to accompany your own journeys, my music offers a doorway into worlds where electronic precision meets human expression.
How did you build your audience on social media?
My journey to building an audience on social media has been an interesting evolution. I started like many artists, posting content on Instagram, but the real turning point came when I joined Threads in 2023. This platform unexpectedly became the catalyst for gaining traction and connecting with fans in a way I hadn’t experienced before.
What made Threads particularly valuable was the community of artists I discovered there. I formed meaningful connections with talented musicians who have since become friends, including Mark Whitmore (Maneframe) and Freddie Croona (Terrorbit). I’ve also connected with passionate supporters like Paula (@scarlet_devil_lyra), who has been an incredible advocate for my work and is truly an amazing human being.
Building on this momentum, I created two Spotify playlists dedicated exclusively to independent electronic artists. These playlists have each grown to over 300 followers, largely thanks to the connections made through the Threads community. This initiative not only helped promote my own music but created a supportive ecosystem for other independent electronic musicians as well.
For those just starting to build their social media presence, I’d offer this advice:
Find your community. The platforms where your specific genre or artistic style thrives might surprise you. Be willing to explore emerging platforms rather than just focusing on the most popular ones.
Create value for others. My Spotify playlists weren’t just self-promotion—they provided value to both listeners and fellow artists. This approach builds goodwill and establishes you as a community contributor, not just someone seeking attention.
Be authentic in your interactions. The connections I’ve made weren’t strategic networking; they were genuine relationships built on mutual appreciation and support. People can sense authenticity, and it fosters stronger, more meaningful connections.
Consistency matters more than perfection. Regular engagement, even if modest, builds more momentum than sporadic bursts of activity.
Remember that building an audience is a marathon, not a sprint. My growth came organically through consistent engagement and community building rather than viral moments or marketing tricks. Focus on creating meaningful connections, and the numbers will follow naturally.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The connections. That’s hands down the most rewarding part of putting my music out there.
When I first started creating music, it was just for me…my little escape, my way of processing stuff. I never expected anyone else would actually care about these sounds I was making in my spare time. But man, when other artists started reaching out, when we began collaborating on tracks together? That changed everything for me.
I’ve done a few collabs now, and each one feels like this magical exchange of ideas. We push each other, challenge each other, and create something really cool.
I think there’s no amount of streams or followers compares to that feeling. When someone tells me my music matters to them, that’s everything. No words for it, really. Just… wow.
