Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daniel And Phillip Chaplygin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Daniel and Phillip, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
We learned the craft of playing, writing, and recording music the same way anybody learns any craft; we put in the hours. It’s as simple as that. The only thing we could have done to speed up the learning process would have been to spend more hours learning what we wanted to know! We believe the most essential skill we learned over the years is for our ears to understand what sounds humans find pleasant and unpleasant. Like any hobby, money can always be a bit of an obstacle. It’s important to budget and set money aside for the things you truly love to do.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Spice Intuition is an alternative rock band founded in the summer of 2023 by frontman Daniel Chaplygin and drummer Parker Zanone. Our music is best described as alternative rock with strong flavors of funk, jazz, Latin, and reggae. Recently, we filmed our first-ever music video for the song titled 1515. We are anticipating this video to be released sometime in the next couple of months.
Spice Intuition strives to be original with everything we create. We don’t want to write or record anything that sounds like it already exists. We also don’t want to create anything that sounds like something we’ve already done! We believe it’s this relentless hunger that will set us apart from our peers in due time. With that being said, we believe just about anybody could listen to Spice Intuition and find some sort of merit and/or value to it. There’s a lot to come soon. Stay tuned, America!
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Society can best support artists and creatives by simply exploring the broad horizons of easily accessible entertainment. Being entertained is easier than ever with the advent of modern technology. There are countless hours of film, TV, music, podcasts, and any other art form you could imagine that are just waiting to be discovered! It’s like the old saying goes, “How could you know if you like something if you’ve never tried it?”
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think that non-creatives struggle to understand why people choose to be creatives in the first place. The issue here is in the wording, “why people choose to be creatives” The simple truth of the matter is that being creative isn’t a choice!
I often encounter people who ask me “What is so wrong with the 9-5? You do an honest day’s work, you go home, and you rinse and repeat!”
My response is usually something along the lines of, “There’s nothing wrong with a 9-5. It’s just not right for me. Every fiber of my being rejects this lifestyle. What can I do!”
I truly believe it’s just a simple case of being mentally and emotionally wired differently from most.
