Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daniel and Jade Torres. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Daniel and Jade , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
First response is yes! We are grateful to be business owners. Why? I think my answer is based on past experiences and ability. In order to bring forth context I have to paint a picture first. Growing up, college was strongly encouraged and seemed like the only option to succeed. Fast forward to sophomore year in college picking a major was crucial and caused stress to make the right decision. In order to help make this decision, we interned, interviewed and asked all professionals about the possibilities of picking a certain career. After all the research, we decided to move on with certain career paths that we felt were going to fulfill our aspirations. Once our careers started one thing we ran into (actually every job we ever had), was not being able to make decisions and have control over what happened. We felt we had so much to give and really felt held back from our true potential. Being a business owner makes you feel like the sky is the limit! Not everyone is for that though, it’s a lot to worry about constantly making sure you’re growing, you’re doing the simple things better than you have in the past, and most of all having time to think and strategize. All can be overwhelming but then we think, for us what’s better, working somewhere or doing our own thing? Answer for us is always we’re grateful that we’re here doing what we do!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
One of our core values as a merchant is to provide as much information and background on a piece. That includes condition, design history if applicable, and background of previous ownership. Once informed, we feel a customer can make a decision feeling comfortable and have trust that we provided as much as we could. Of course there’s times when we know who used it for the past 50+ years and have original purchase receipt. Then there’s times when we just know how we purchased it. All in all we like to provide an experience for the customer not just a transaction.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What helped build our reputation is being consistent. We are all a web of customers and peers making it possible to build relationships. Now that we have been in business for 10+ years you tend to observe how people who value others value consistent reliable purchase experiences to make us all circle back to each other.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In the current market, selling platforms are constantly changing making it an opportunity to problem solve. When we first started COVID hit shortly after making us pivot to only online. This meant making our shopping experience through the lens of our phone. Thankfully customers were understanding of circumstances and more than willing to experience the shop virtually. Today, there seems to be a shift back to meet in person. We’re excited to shift back by creating social events and more availability for customers to visit the shop. Although challenging to switch we also feel as a business you have to be observant and work towards shifting your approach if needed.
