Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dani Sage. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dani, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Before I started the Good Vibes Hive, I had been in the beauty industry for over a decade as a nail technician. All of the stereotypes you’ve heard about the relationship between a client and her nail tech are absolutely true, we hear everything! For some clients the conversations between their nail techs are the deepest, most intimate conversations they have in their whole social life. We know more than your best friend, husband, or mother 99.9% of the time.
I began to hear patterns in these conversations. My clients felt stuck, directionless, unsure, and untrusting of their own intuition. At the same time, I was also feeling absolutely stuck and directionless in life. I stayed in an unhappy limbo for three years in a position at a company I had worked so hard to get to, the whole time stuck between thinking “I have no idea what I want, but it isn’t this.” and “You worked so hard to get here, can’t you just be happy?”. That’s when I started reaching for my tarot cards for support, a practice that had been a part of my life longer than my career in the beauty industry. Contrary to popular belief, tarot doesn’t predict the future, but it does provide clarity, and empower the person receiving the reading by getting in touch with their own intuition, something most people are completely disconnected from.
Needing a escape from my daily work life, and wanting a way to support my clients with their problems in a deeper way, I began offering emailed tarot readings as part of my blog I had at the time: the Good Vibes Hive (which I started to try to have a more positive impact on the world around me, while also supporting my mental health). I would do the readings that had been ordered every night after work. One client, who ran a women’s networking group in town, asked if I would come to do tarot readings in person as a wellness station at her next event. I had a line all night, and stayed late to get through everyone who wanted a reading. At the end of their reading, almost every woman asked where they could come to me for a more in depth reading. I could see that this connection and clarity was missing from so many people’s lives, and that if these women, and my clients all felt this way, there was a market for a tarot reader who helped individuals work through the challenges of everyday life. Two months later I opened my own space where I could offer in person readings and a small selection of retail items, like crystals and tarot decks, and that is when the Good Vibes Hive was born!
It has now been over 6 years and the Good Vibes Hive continues to grow! I’ve since moved in to a larger space, expanded my retail offerings, done thousands of tarot readings, and added Human Design chart readings into my services, which are offered virtually or in person at my shop in Worthington, Ohio.
I believe the Good Vibes Hive has been successful because it was founded on my belief that magic and clarity should be accessible for everyone. My tarot, Human Design services, and intentionally curated retail offerings are always communicated in an easy to understand way. My goal is to empower you to find clarity in your life and add ritual to every day.
Dani, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Something happens when my clients set the intention to add more clarity into their life simply by making an appointment. There’s an unexplainable magic that beings to unfurl in front of them, I call it the “trail of cosmic breadcrumbs”. Opportunities, synchronicities, and coincidences seemingly begin to line up for them to choose from. I know this because I hear it from my clients all the time: “You’ll never believe what happened to me after I saw you!” followed by stories of unexpected job offers, chance meetings, promotions, gifts, conversations, dates, courage, and so much more. I’ll never try to explain it, or take total credit for it, its just…magic. The transformations I’ve seen my clients go through over the last six years, make me so proud of my business.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth has by far been the best source of new clients for me. Fostering great relationships with every client, and providing a consistent experience for them that leaves them feeling like a VIP, whether it’s their first time coming to me or their sixtieth, is my biggest focus. Because of this, my clients become my biggest cheerleaders and greatest marketers, shouting my praises on their social media, booking me for events, and buying gift cards so their friends and family can have the same experience.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The Magic of Tiny Business by Sharon Rowe has completely shaped my business mindset. I feel like the overwhelming measure of success in business today is how big can you grow and how fast can you do it? That just doesn’t resonate with me. The goal in my business is to intentionally keep it “small” so that it can support me and my family in a scalable, sustainable way, while allowing myself total freedom and flexibility in both my business and my personal life. The Magic of Tiny Business showed me that you can have a thriving, profitable business without spreading yourself too thin. This year I am on track to make six figures, working three to four days per week, without having to manage a ton of people.
