We recently connected with D’angelo Leysath and have shared our conversation below.
D’Angelo, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned how to wrestle at a facility based in Irmo, SC called the Palmetto Wrestling Academy. My trainers invested a lot of time and effort into shaping me into the performer that I am today. Through my training experience I feel that I could’ve sped up the process by displaying more confidence out of the gate, however it is hard to be fully confident until you feel that you’ve perfected the craft. In a way I feel that I did speed up my process by being an early stand out and being the first of my wrestling class to make their debut. The most essential skill that I continue to apply is technique. There are a lot of great athletes in wrestling that are very strong, acrobatic, and fairly talented, but only the good ones stand out because they can do the little things right. They have good footwork, they move with a purpose, and they are fundamentally sound. I feel like I am one of those guys. The biggest obstacle for me is getting out of my own head. I’ve gotten better over time but I tend to be my own biggest critic when it comes to my in ring performance. I’ve been lucky to be in locker rooms with a lot of veteran wrestlers who always have feedback and constructive criticism to give and help me grow. I’ve overcame my obstacle by watching film on myself and taking notes in order to make sure that from the time my music hits to the time I exit the arena, I am giving every fan the best version of me possible.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into professional wrestling as a joke originally, but shortly realized that I can make a career out of it. I trained for 2 years bet having my first match, and I’ve been able to have a lot of cool experiences in my young career so far. As for any products I do sell merchandise and the links can be found in my social media profiles. For all of my fans, followers, etc: I just want to thank you all for your continuous love and support. You guys never let me give up on myself. I feels so good to walk around in public and be recognized as a positive influence on people in my community. I’m not a TV star yet whatsoever, but I can’t imagine that the love they get is just as compassionate as the love that you guys show me locally. I am forever grateful to be from the 803!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I try to post on all of my social media at least once a day even if it’s just a repost/share, just to keep my accounts in the algorithm. I use a lot of hashtags that all connect to the audience that I am trying to reach. My goal is to start doing livestreams weekly so that I can connect with my followers and get their opinions on the wrestling world and how they would like to see me make an impact. My best advice is to keep your social media clean and active. Don’t post anything that would cause people to not want to support you. Stay neutral and promote your brand.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part about being a creative mind in wrestling is that there’s no “right way” to get reactions from the crowd. Never in my career have a had a match go exactly as planned and I have never had matches that were similar. Every night I give the crowd something different that way they always go home wondering what is next to come. By doing so I give the crowd a reason to invest in my brand and they give me a challenge to be more creative than I was the last time they saw me perform.
